I was wondering what the jobs of some Explosmers are. What do you do? Do
you like it? Why? What would you like to do for a living? What might you get into, why? Feel free to discuss.
Example: I would like to work in the restaurant business because I love cooking and I enjoy making people happy though food.
Begin sharing...now!
Also, please don't say "I wanna' be a SPACEMAN!" or something stupid like that, post your real job or something that you want to do that is realistic.

I am fairly sure there is a thread like this already somewhere. Anyway...
I currently work about 30 hours a week in a factory and am still in school. I should graduate high school this year with a general associates degree.
Not 100% sure where I am going, but I am gonna go for a major in information technologies next year.

I teamed up with a web designer here and we are working on a website for local political cartoons and comics made by me. We are in the early stages, but hopefully it'll be good.
Occasionally I make caricatures or political cartoons for a local magazine called "Between the Waves."
Other than that I have no stable job.

I'm about to start my last year of highschool, during which I'm hoping to get an apprenticeship (sp? I apologise it's very off today) at a tattoo parlour. Eventually I want to go to uni and do some sort of games development course mainly in the animation and concept design area.
I also want to be a rockstar =D

I currently work for my dad's financial services business, keeping the office in line etc when he's not here, which is most of the time. I don't like it much but it brings in the money for now.
I used to work at McDonalds but I got fired.
This year I'm planning on getting a forklift license and maybe some other qualifications and going to work in a factory or something because I'm over sitting in an office bludging all day.
I would like to make a living off making music, but I'm smart enough to know that's almost impossible these days unless you play shitty fag music.

I get out of bed at 3pm, smoke, game until 7pm, eat, smoke, game until 6am, go to sleep. On the weekends or sometimes during the week I'll hang out with friends, but since the recession I've had zero actual work. Normally I'm an electrical apprentice, but the company I work for has nothing for me and I already did this year's schooling, so basically I sit around spending my EI. I fucking love my life right now.

That's the good shit. I wanted to be an electrical engineer, or rather my "course counselor" suggested it was the only thing I'd do well at.

Also, please don't say "I wanna' be a SPACEMAN!" or something stupid like that, post your real job or something that you want to do that is realistic.
But that's actually what I want to do. Most people know that my field of expertise is Education and I'm thinking of slightly tweaking that to move from class-based teaching to program creation and a more holistic approach to educational structure.
Why? Because eventually humans will emmigrate to Mars. These colonies will need teachers and I would like to have experience not just with face-to-face "actual teaching" but also with developing and implementing educational structures. This would make me a perfect candidate for emmigration.
In addition, I am also beginning to think seriously about politics. Very seriously, and I honestly think I could get elected to the NSW Senate if I really dedicated myself to it.
So, the plan currently is - program development and a broader approach to the development and implementation of educational systems, followed by a stint in politics via the NSW Government (and possibly on to the Federal Government) with the culmination of being either State or Federal Education Minister. Finally, quit my job and go to Mars to become a pioneering educator there.
Note: A move into politics would also give me the experience needed to not just be an educator on Mars but also someone who is central to the development and implementation of the first Government of Mars.

I'm a building designer and have been doing that for a year and a half now. I work 40 hours a week whilst doing my bachelor of building design at uni externally. Yes, external uni sucks balls.
As for my job, yes I do enjoy it especially due to the people you meet in the industry. My dream job when I was younger was a paleantologist but you make crap all money in that.

I'm a projectionist at a movie theater. It's an alright job, especially being a student, but the pay isn't great. Free movies is a nice benefit. Apparently 35mm film is nearly a dead art, as everything is going digital. :(
I have a job interview on Wednesday at the local Casino. I'm fairly confident I'll get hired, but I'm not sure what position I'd work. The manager mentioned to me that there's a Blackjack dealing course next month, so I'm definitely going to check that out.
I'm still a student, majoring in Geography (second year of university), with no set career path.

And I have no job, despite me applying everywhere. I've had a few interviews at the standard retailers where teenagers work, but I can't work thursday nights (late night shopping) so it never works out. God I want money.
As for the future, I've probably expressed before that I want to be an freelance artist. However, I've always seen myself in the future being successful and fucking rich as- so I've been looking at the business side of things for potential career paths lately. All in all, this is very boring.

I'm at university doing my bachelors in IT, probably not the right course for me but at the time I started it seemed appropriate.
Hopefully I'll make it big as a project manager, save money and then just become a teacher at a college or something, teach kids IT.
I used to work in a childcare centre, kinda had to stop that job once I started drinking as it was not going to be good trudging into work after a massive night out.
At the moment I'm a liquor assistant at a giant supermarket in Australia.
I'd love to become a critic, a literary critic would be kind of my dream job, I envision myself sitting on a beach getting books mailed to me and having to read them under the sun or while I'm enjoying beers.
I have no job and I have no money. I also have no aspirations.

What electorate would you be running in, if NSW works like that?
I'll be running in the Senate, or Legislative Council, which is not based upon electorates (that is the House of Representatives, or the Legislative Assembly). The Senate is simply a state-wide election, via proportional representation, of 42 people (21 every 4 years) to represent all of NSW as a whole.
Federal works on the basis that all states get equal representation i.e. Northern Territory has the same number of senators as NSW, I should know the answer considering I did legal studies as part of my HSC
You should know this. Each state gets 12 Senators in the Federal Senate and our two Territories get 2 each for a total of 76.
Majoring in geophysics, will probably end up as an academic or something. Might work in the oil industry if I feel like I want some more dough, though.

Truth be told, I'm a bit jealous of guys like Audioslave who have some idea of the direction they want to take, because I've completely lost mine.
Right now I don't have a job, but I feel like I should get one cause all my friends do and just for general life experience and skills and shit. Yeah I'm Australian. I probably will end up going to SAE, but it all depends. Currently I don't qualify for a UAI so I'd have to do a six month Tafe course or something to make up the extra credits if I wanted to go to Uni. I still have plenty of time to decide what I'm going to do though. Which is good, because University is confusing.

SAE is wicked expensive, so try and get a scholarship for that shit ;)
There's not much that they teach you at SAE that they don't teach in the equivalent TAFE courses, but the equipment you get to use there blows any TAFE campus out of the water.
If you do TAFE instead of SAE the best gear is at North Sydney apparently and, according to my TAFE teacher, Ourimbah (where I went for Cert-IV) is next in line. Ultimo and Newcastle suck ass, apparently.

All your politics suck and none of you can construct an argument to save your own life. I, however, will succeed in politics, probably starting small before quickly taking my throne as the Supreme Leader of the New World Order.
Currently, though, I'm in Korea, working as an English teacher. It's a pretty cool job. a lot easier than teaching in the U.S. And living here is cheap. I'd suggest it to any of you looking for a bit of adventure after college.
When it comes to a career. I'm not really sure. I've tried the teaching thing. I don't think I can do that my whole life. I'm not organized enough. I do like working with kids, though, and in the education field. Perhaps some kind of job connected to tutoring and teacher support.
I also have a strange love for restaurant work, even though I can't cook to save my life. So, I may end up doing something like that until I get some girl pregnant and have to find some shitty but stable job that pays well enough to support my new family.

I work for the United States Air Force, but my job description has more to do with the Army than Air operations. We move into any hostile area by land or air insertion and create and maintain secure parameter so the Air Force can land and move in to conduct Air War Operations. We find the Enemy, Engage him, provide security for day to day operations, protect VIP's, do convoys in hostile areas, secure detention certers, guard the gates and enforce military law. If the Air Force needs someone shot, we are the ones doing the shooting.
I primarily work as a Team Leader for 4-6 man tactical teams, though every couple of months I rotate onto the training staff and teach the nebies that come here to our unit right out of school. I love my job, it's fun most of the time, challenging, I've seen a lot of the world and I love the guys I work with.
But I've recently begun to wonder what my skills would be woth on the private sector, as a Private Military Contractor. I have some friends who recently got out of the Military and went that route. And they're making bank...

I'm taking A levels at the moment and my main one is music technology, I was considering sound engineering at a recording studio or something along those lines. Still am but now i'm undecided between that and media, it's just as enjoyable, fairly easy and seems like it could make for an equally awesome career.
And I guess in the mean time I should start job hunting at a store or something since I got fired from my last one months ago for being a lazy fuck, that's what happens when i'm doing something I don't enjoy.

You may not make a million in your first year, but if it is what you want to do with you life, it is a secure industry. Not only can you teach (university/high school, as your fancy takes it), but you can work in a museum, you can be a consultant, there are a number of historical organizations that would need staff and of course, if your good enough, you could be a published author. But, in saying that, most historical authors I know are academics. It's not a dead end industry and for some, job satisfaction is enough.

Not to mention you can work in politics, law, journalism, the media, business, banks and diplomacy.
History isn't about learning some random facts and being able to recall them and then tell someone else them, that's a bullshit misconception. Studying History at Degree means that you get vital research and analytical skills that allow you to work in the above industries, and plenty more. Shit I know Historians who work in CreditSuisse and HSBC.

I am an ultrasound technologist as well as an xray tech. I work in a hospital 3 days a week, and I absolutely fucking love it. I have thought about going after my masters', but it hasn't gotten farther than that. Not sure what I would do with it really, other than teach. I really wanted to go to art school for graphic design, but that market is flooded and it doesn't pay that well. I went into medical imaging, it's a funky kind of photography I suppose, and it sure pays the bills.

Probably going to do Law at university. Chances are that that will point me in the right direction to become a lawyer at some point.
I feel upstaged by just about everyone else in the thread so I'm going to elaborate. I'm probably going to do a double degree of Arts/Law, with my arts degree dealing with International Relations and to continue with my study of French because I like the idea of the doors having a second language would open for me. That way I'd be able to go into international law and therefore travel all over the place which would be really good. Perhaps this could also lead me into politics at some stage - I mean, if Kevin Rudd can get in just on the virtue that he speaks Mandarin, surely French has to count for something, right?
I also saw a person/a few people in the thread say they want to be a librarian. Just as an example, my sister did a postgraduate course in Information Systems or something like that and Librarianship (or whatever) after doing French at University and she now gets paid ridiculous amounts of money to live in Geneva, Switzerland and organise exhibitions around the Palais de Nations (United Nations). She just takes long weekends and, you know, goes to Paris for a few days. She's pretty much travelled to most of the major European centres by now. It's a pretty sweet life.

I go for two week trips offshore on a one hundred foot deep sea crab fishing boat. I work from 5 am to 9 pm out on the deck. I eat breakfast before, twenty minutes for lunch, and dinner after. Waves are usually 10 to 15 feet high and most of the time we work in dense fog. The crabs have claws that will break fingers if we aren't really careful, and we usually catch about 75,000 pounds per trip.

I'm not legally allowed to explain what my job entails. I'm in the United States Marine Corps doing intelligence work. It's a great job, and much better then anything else I could have done. Fastest promoting field in the military, highest reenlistment bonuses, free medical and dental, a guaranteed paycheck, a top secret security clearance and who here can say there job training involved machine guns and rocket launchers? Exactly. Once I'm out, I'd like to get a medical degree and be a doctor, but I doubt I'll have any time to do that so I'll probably just get a degree in either psychology or history online.

I completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in physiology and pharmacology and am currently a research student.
My research involves investigating a new delivery method for applying endogenous proteins called neurotrophins to the inner ear to improve the integrity of deafened auditory nerves. The hope is that the neurotrophins can prevent degeneration of the auditory nerve in deaf patients, therefore resulting in better results for cochlear implant users.
To pay the bills, I'm a phone monkey. Inbound call centre for a toll road. It's not too bad and not very busy at the times that I usually work (for example now) so it gives me plenty of time to bum around online.

I work for a gold mining company and live at work for a couple of weeks at a time. I work for a department that makes sure the site is legally compliant in numerous aspects of the operation.
Living at work sucks in a very big way and I didn't expect to be here after studying a science degree. The money is great though and the work is actually pretty interesting so I am not complaining. I also bought a house so really need to pay that debt off.

I work at a putt putt golf course. It's very tiedious.I mean, ringing up all the customers and then having to set up the golf balls and clubs can get very tiresome. Then keeping watch for stray balls and clubs, retriving balls that fell into the waterfall. It's just work and I guess we all have to deal with it sometime.

Studying music composition at Hertfordshire University in England, and looking to either be a composer or produer or both working for film and TV and the like.
My last job was a boring clerical job for the Exam Board, sorting out exam papers and marking them for appeal where noted on my big sheet of appealing students (Reading this back has brought my attention to 'Appealing Students' being a rather amusing oxymoron, hence I'm leaving it as is). I got fired after the first week for working too slowly. They didn't take my shit eyesight into consideration. Dicks. :indiff:

1. No one should be allowed near other humans who thinks that all you need is school level education, and cutting people up for medical reasons is called "being a surgery".
2. Azunder, my biggest tip ever would be to get good at your art but find something that makes you quirky. The three top selling artist in Britain use odd methods:
1. Paul Kenton: paints his pieces by dribbling paint off the end of a screwdriver onto the canvas
2. Neil Dawson: paints only using his fingers
3. Lesley Anne-Derks: pains mixing oils with liquid enamels.
Being good is ok, but nothing beats standing out from a crowd to get you a publishing deal.

At the moment I'm working in retail for another 12 months and then the government will give me free money whilst I do uni. (Earn 18k in 18 months and the government gives you money while you're a student.)
Once in uni I'm doing my BA in theatre tech. (Basically learning how to be a techie) and from there getting my engineering degree.
In the end I will be able to not only work in theatrical venues but be able to build the supporting structures for lights in out door arenas.

Right now, I'm getting my BA in English and Journalism, and getting certified to be a teacher on any level. I also plan on getting a letter of specialization in Tech Writing(Only way to get good money with an English degree).
I'm going to teach for a few years, see if I enjoy it. If I do, go back and go further in English and Journalism and try to become a college professor.
If not, I'll probably go a totally different path and become a vet. I know it's helpful to have a liberal arts/English background.
My dream is to retire from teaching, open up a sandwich shop and become a falconer. Also, through becoming a Jazz musician in there somewhere. Or a folk guitarist, either way.

Wow, you're going to get certified on any level and specialize in Tech Writing? Seems like a hell of a lot to do. I don't know where you're from, but where I got my certification primary and secondary level were two quite different programs. I'm not even sure a person could do them together. But, if you can do them together, good for you.

I don't plan to graduate in 4 years, but I have almost all my general hours out of the way, so pretty I can pretty much use all of my time specifically for my majors. Also, the certification program here takes about 4-5 semesters to complete. I'm not totally sure if I can get certified for both levels simultaneously, but if not, then I'll just go secondary. For the tech writing, I might transfer to another university for that, but it's kind of still up in the air.

I work for a Civil Engineering/Land Surveying company. My job title is "Project Technician" which is a fancy term for a draftsman. I've been here almost 2 years (2 yrs in Dec.). Anyways, our main clients are pipeline companies so I mostly draw out maps and schematics in AutoCAD. Plan and profile drawings, environmental permits, legal notes, ect. Lately it's been pretty slow, hence why I'm on Explosm at the moment. Its a cool job, they're flexible with my school hours, I'm majoring in Computer Information Systems so hopefully I'll stay with the same company as an IT guy/network admin. or whatever after I graduate.

AFL is gay as fuck anyway. NRL's where it's at. I don't see how you could dislike meat pies and beer though.

Ah you would be in Queensland or NSW then. I don't dislike beer, I just don't like it as much as the rest of the country seems to. People are way too obsessed with alcohol here. Must be something to do with most of the country having ancestors who were convicts.
You ever thought of aiming higher than a warehousing dude? Not that there is anything wrong with doing that sort of work. I used to do shit kicking jobs when I was younger, got boring pretty quick. I even worked for daddy for a while doing the same sort of shit.

I'll probably aim higher eventually, for now though I'm keen to just go into warehousing. It's a good place to start, haha. I'm 21 and still have no idea where I want to go in life, so at least I have something to aim for at the moment, no matter how much of a shit kicker job it is.

After 12 years working for the same company I finally reached the point where I said "Fuck you very much, here is my resignation". They have been begging me to stay and I really dont think I am prepared to sell my soul back to them. I have tasted freedom and it's good! Only crap thing is I dont have another job to go to yet, and to be honest I have never been unemployed so the thought of a holiday is appealing but the whole part where I dont get a salary anymore sucks balls. How will I afford to drink?

I didn't have a plan until I was in my mid 20's. Going to uni in your mid 20's is fucking awesome. So many young ladies to hang out with. I was in heaven for 4 years. Now I'm back in the real world working in a male dominated industry... no more being surrounded by ladies who thought and older man was something of a novelty. My pay did pretty much quadruple though in comparison to what I was on as a labourer.
