View Full Version : Explosm Band
Yeah, Yeah.. I know some people have given up hope and there was already a thread asking what's going on. But I think this can still work. Now.. I'm not much of a song writer; but I just happen to brainstorm a song today and it would be great if we get people to play it. I mean, I can easily get some people around my highschool and we can start playin; but the 1st Commandment according to Explosm is "Rememeber Thy Explosm First". The song, in brief description, is garage rock-ish and would be quite simple to play. I don't have anything that could send the music, Garage Band or Guitar Pro, to anyone who wants to know what I'm talkin about.
So if everyone is still interested in the Band thing; someone wake up Oxy.
P.S- I play the drums.. I know right? When has a Drummer been allowed to make a song?

Spame post, zombielovejuice?
I can't play anything at the moment as i have a broken left hand, but I can play guitar otherwise. However, I don't suppose it's a good idea me doing anything like that for a while.
I'd be very interested to hear how the final result turns out (if it ever gets done).

Well we did have guitarist auditions previously and I ended up winning, there was an idea for drummer auditions in a thread but we just need some more organization and help from the mods.

Well like I've said before I'll sing but someone needs to get me a basic music track so I know the beat/timing etc, and the lyrics obviously. I've got the flu at the moment so I won't be able to record anything till next weekend.

As I said.. I did brainstorm a quick song. Moslty just a verse and chorus. But I made both the music and a vague-outline of the lyrics.. if we wanna play Garage-Rock (White Stripes, The Hives, The Strokes..). But I'm still open to any other music-genre.

I dunno if this helps, but i've written a few songs that i still have, chances are i'll never become anything big with them lol, so if you like you can use one of mine? I aimed to address issues mainly, but it has to be said, on reading them a lot would seem typical linkin park style lyrics, but they could work, they mainly address problems in society and some address war.

To be honest, I'm not sure either. Like how to send the music tabs, how to be all in-sync, or how to record/send our part of the song/mix them together.

Damn, innerearth's better than me at bass. I may have been playing since 3rd grade, but I'm only a freshman and he's a Jazz major...

Basically, whoever's playing rhythm guitar would record it and post it for everyone right now. He would have to record to a metronome, so that there is a beats per minute for everyone to play at (most importantly, the drum person).
Then the lead guitarist would download the track and record a track to that.
Then the drum programmer ('cause I doubt anybody has the means to record live drums) would make the drums at the specified bpm.
Then the bassist would download the song and record over it.
Then any other instruments (horns, banjos, kazoos, whatever).
Then the vocalist.
You would have to keep separate tracks of each persons contribution, so that whoever is mastering the song can do so easily at the end.

Sweet, we got a pro on our hands.
Do you suggest any recording programs? I'm a drummer, fyi.

Well, a good free one is Audacity.
http://download-audacity.org/?gclid=CMj8veC4tY4CFQ6CPAodfVJUwQ
It will take some figuring out though, if you've never used a recording program.
You're gonna need a microphone. Either a regular computer mic (won't be very high quality but who cares), or a real mic with a preamp (expensive). I really don't think you can record drums, but you can try...
If you're playing an electric instument you can send it directly to your comp through a cable eliminating the need for a microphone (but that may also take some figuring out).
btw, if you need a program for making drums you could try
Fruity Loops (fl studio)
or Reason
or beatcraft (haven't tried it) http://www.acoustica.com/beatcraft/link_info.htm
of course those programs cost money, but you can use the free trial or you could download it...

The only mic I got is from a headphone/headset. That probably won't work eh?

Nope. Get a couple mics, place them in spread places about the drums, plug them into a mixer, plug the mixer into the computer and record.

Assuming you don't mind crappy quality.
And assuming you aren't trying to record drums.

You could do all that for only about $500.

This was a good idea, and I'd still like to help with it if I could. The way I see it the only way anything is going to happen is someone needs to just record something a rhythm track or something just rhythm guitar or even just a repeating drum track and then just see where it goes from there.
People could add on to it there parts and then maybe vote on like the best bassline or guitar solo or whatever and eventually someone would add lyrics..
I don't know but if someone just gets something out there then it would be started and eventually would get somewhere.
