What kinds of art do you do?

What types of media? Any particular styles you prefer? It's a bit of a personal fascination learning about the works of other artists (probably the reason I'm studying Art History in university.) So, please show me some of yours. Varied styles, media, whatever. Show me what you like to work with.

As for me, I work in a few different media. The style I try to keep semi realistic, because in all honesty, cartoons and I do not mix very well.

Just gunna find my pics from this other thread on here somewhere. Uno momento. Aha here we go. I only really work in pencil and pen. I'm an absolutely shit painter, and I can't stand the feel of chalk or charcoal, so I'm pretty limited! I do so love teh penciiiil though. Heres a couple of my drawings. One or two are copies of some other excellent artists from deviantART, but they're mostly mine. All pics are taken on a camera phone, so I apologize for lack of quality

Oh, and i'm learning how to do some nifty digital art. I got corel painter today, so I might be able to do some nice looking colour overs of some sketches I do.

Yeah, you seem to have a pretty steady line going with a pencil. That's something I definitely need to work on. My pencil works always end up something like this:

Kudos on that one, for sure. I like the dragons as well; they're pretty wicked.

I'm very particular when it comes to my own drawings, too. I do the whole thing really, really lightly. Then when I get the general shape of it all worked out, I go over them abit harder and rub out the messy lines. Thats maybe why it looks abit cleaner than most sketches. I do have alot of scruffy stuff too, just not uploaded.

I personally like that sketch you just showed, just his right leg looks abit messed up, but it doesn't look like you went all out to finish it anyway. The rest of it is really nice, and a crazy pose, too.

And yeah, I don't know what to do about the legs, so I sort of put it aside and never touched it again. I kind of like the unifinished look of it, though.

Hehe, all of those are really good. I think realistic/semi-realistic drawings and sculptures require much more patience than 'cartoony' art. Probably because of all the detail.

As for me, I go with cartoons and wacky drawings with pencil/paper and graphics programs.

I agree about the realist/semi-realistic drawings and sculptures taking more time and effort. That's why I tend to avoid them. Personally, I get bored much quicker drawing something like that than just creating something random with less detail in it. Each to their own, mind you.

Oh, I forgot to say how much I loved the acrylic goldfinch. I envy your painting skills. Like I said, i'm useless with paints. I spent 5years at school practicing and practicing, and I never improved, haha. :frown:

I've tried and failed with markers. Haven't really moved into the 3D media much. I've also unsuccessfully attempted charcoal.

Is the wrinkling of the watercolour piece intentional or accidental? Because it was very lucky that the texture worked alright there, though I think it would look much better smooth.

I do loads of pencil drawings; It's mostly sketches and scraps of people I draw in my spare time. Not really in my spare time, but while I can't get to sleep. I sometimes try to draw something as realisticly as possible but it usually comes out looking like a cartoon. I'm to used to drawing everything over-simplified. There's no real style to it, nothing' exagerated, but everything's a bit smoother and the shading's very linear.
The only digital art I do is mostly comics or jokes on Explosm. I just hate drawing with a mouse.
I make Flash games aswell, (Making games is an art, no argument) there's no real time for realism there. If you're drawing a hundred-something frames in every enemy and you want some variation, then realism isn't important. In fact, filesize is paramount so the less detail you have, the better. What's fun is manipulating physics- Because you can have things interact with the player however you want, whether that's what it's like in real life or not.

The wrinkling just happened cause I used tracing paper. Tracing paper and water are apparently not friends.

I have no idea what my style is. It's kinda cartoonish, kinda realistic... I dunno. I have influences from everything and everyone.

I like to doodle and sketch stuff with regular ol' pencil and paper. I'll be getting a graphics tablet soon (possibly today), meaning I'll start making art directly in Photoshop and Flash, once I get the hang of using it.

And i work with photography mainly, but none of my friends will pose for me to my standards so ive only ever taken piccys of me and the only ones that turned out good were black and white cos even when you dont point em accurately, they look good, unlike color

Sure, C00P. That particular drawing isn't exactly symmetrical as it was done freehand on paper. But you can tweak it out to however you want, no problems from me =D

Well....Nah, ive done nudes but they were deleted cos my sister decided to go through my camera before i could save em and now my cams stuffed so yeah! My friends might do nudes...ive never asked..hmm

And it looks symmetrial, which is all thats necessary, like it doesnt have to be perfect but yeah, it definitely looks good enough as it is. I just noticed what you meant and i like the non-symmetricalness of it, looks good, thanks!!

Ooh, i've just seen Lynleys work up there. Very niiiice. I love how patient you are with paint. I'd never give it that much time , I get so bored of paint far too quickly, which is a shame because some really fantastic art can be done in it.

For tattoos, I'd be ridiculously precise and perfect if it were to go on my body. I've made appointments with tattoo artists, but none of the art, as of yet, has reached the standards I want for my body.

Matterialize, I like your drawings quite a bit. With a little more work on anatomy (particularly arms and hands I've noticed) you could get something really wicked going on. You seem to be strong doing faces though, which is wicked.

My favourite is acrylic paint. This is my most recent painting (http://i17.tinypic.com/4m1xyxe.jpg), which I think turned out ok, but I may redo it in the future.

But I use pencils most because you can use them whenever. I don't like doing just the outlines of things, I shade everything. Most of my drawings are done when I'm bored, so I shade too much for something to do and then everything just looks metallic. These two aren't my best work, but they're only ones I have photographs of. An eye (http://i18.tinypic.com/6glvj7t.jpg) when I was trying to do faces well and a page of random stuff (http://i17.tinypic.com/4ygzfd1.jpg) I did over a few French lessons.

Fodniethan, you're making a good start there (and the shading on the acrylic painting is very nice) however your pencil drawings seem very flat to me. There isn't enough tonal value there to really make them pop.

I'm a fan of pencil line-art and whatnot. My style is kind of anime-ness with a bit of realism. I also enjoy coloring my works on the computer.

I have a DA account, however, I haven't added anything to it in ages.

once you get really attuned to that sort of thing, you'll find yourself able to draw up realistic things very quickly.

The trick is to be adventurous and experiment! when i was about 6-14 i absolutely abhorred using 'still life', however to truly understand the abstract (or create from scratch with the imagination, something i constantly do) you have to start with the real and realistic things.

Development in these said things will help anyone dramatically, in their current work.

Well, I got my tablet and it fuckin' rocks. This means I'll be doing pretty much all of my sketches directly in Photoshop/Flash! No more blurry photographs! :hf:

How much did you have to pay for it? It's my birthday coming up soon, and i'm thinking of asking my parents for a tablet. I've always wanted one, but i've never had the money for it. At Best Buy, it cost me around $175 Canadian. But Summit Direct charges $190.00 + tax for the 6x8, so I'm gonna return this one and buy that. The only reason I couldn't today is because the store doesn't get any more until October. ;;

I've heard with tablets, that bigger doesn't necessarily mean better. I guess such a small change wont make an enormous difference though ;)

azunder, noted what you just said. It's true that practicing on realistic things does help you, no matter what, in my opinion. It helps alot with proportions and shading. For anyone that might've wanted to know :smile:

Actually, it's over twice the surface area:

4x5 = 20
6x8 = 48

And yeah, I've also heard that large tablets aren't great. But 4x5 is the smallest size available, the 6x8 being one step up. It basically gives you a larger and more detailed drawing area without taking up excessive room.
