View Full Version : Impacted Wisdom Teeth
I have two (2) impacted wisdom teeth to be removed April 10th. Should I be nervous?

Apparently you are already nervous, otherwise you would not have started a thread about it.
BUT, because you asked nicely, I will go ahead and remind you that wisdom teeth were mentioned multiple times in the "Worst Pain You've Ever Been In" thread.

It's ok, it hurts less than getting your nails ripped off one by one. If that helps.
No reason to be worried, from what I know it only hurts like shit until after. And at that point you can take painkillers etc.

It's not that bad at all, I had all 4 removed and there was only mild discomfort for a few days afterward. The pain killers definitely helped though haha.
I dunno if my wisdom teeth were messed up, I doubt it, they just came out because I was getting braces. Anyways, it was pretty painless, my sister was asking to go to class that afternoon. I faked being sick so I could sleep the rest of the day. And I didn't have hardly any swelling. Wasn't any worse or better than when I had my canines pulled.

You get prescribed narcotics, don't be nervous.
My friend's cousin died when she got her wisdom teeth out, the meds killed her.

I just had my wisdom teeth removed. The surgery was fine and everything was going well. Of course, when I hurt a bit, they gave me vicodin to take. For a day, it was awesome.
Then I found out I was allergic to vicodin. Trust me, not a good way to find out.

Haha what happened? (reaction wise)

Throat became sore, not where my teeth were, but just in my throat. It hurt to swallow anything, even just water. I also just had a red rash throughout my body. Itched like hell. My stomach also hurt, but I have a feeling that was because I couldn't eat too much.
All in all, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but it still sucked.
I found out I was allergic to penicillin the same way.
Ahaha penicillin. You'd think they'd be able to take a strand of your DNA and tell you what you're allergic to beforehand.
Can't have that rational interfering with the corporate agendas of big medicine I guess.

Funny thing, I went to an allergist (is that even a word? Or a position? Whatever) and they tested a bunch of different materials and medicines on me to see what I reacted to. They just put small doses on my back and found with spots looked red.
I'm guessing they didn't test either of these two, or they neglected to tell me.

It's not exactly cheap, easy, or efficient to check if people are allergic to painkillers and penicillin and such, because most people aren't and the effects aren't deadly.
If you were going to be given some serious drugs that might kill you if you were allergic, they do those kinda tests.
It hurt more than my root canal did.

I hear it's like child birth in the mouth. Hearing about it has always freaked me out, and I hope I never have to go through it.

My girlfriend's studying dentistry. I just asked her, and she says it's the procedure most likely to cause ongoing discomfort amongst patients.
So it'll hurt like all hell for a while, then it'll only hurt like a little bit of hell for a while longer.

The same thing happened to me with hydrocodone post wisdom teeth surgery. I took one and got up to go sleep in my bed and fainted/passed out before I could get on the bed. I woke up a couple of seconds later in a cold sweat, while laying on the floor. Luckily the pain ended that night so it wasn't that bad at all. I just used Tylenol until the day was over.
I agree, it's a terrible time to find out.

I think your real problem is that no one actually cares about you.
