Tobbaco companies responsible for user's cancers?

This is a debate thread. Personally, I think it's the user's own fualt for smoking. Tobbaco killed my grandmother, but it's not the tobbaco companies fualt. The danger of smoking is commen knowlege now ( Not when my grandmother started), and the user's accept full responsbility for thier actions. Post you're own opinions, or just flame me and call me a " Fucktard".

I think the users are to blame but also companies do have lots of subliminal messages that effect little kids so it is kind of mixed faults for cancer because most of the chemicals you smoke are in the shit they add(I think I could be wrong) so you can't blame just one party it's both their faults.

However, if tabacco companies falsely advertise their product eg. minimize the health risk or downplay smokings effects then the company is in part directly responsible. It is not the consumers fault if they are mislead. At the moment there is an ongoing civil court case in Finland, where three plaintiffs have sued tobacco companies on the basis that they marketed "light cigarettes" as non-hazardous to health, a claim the plaintiffs initially believed, before contracting serious lung diseases. "Light cigarettes" are actually more hazardous to health than regular cigarettes — they contain less nicotine, so that the smokers tend smoke more of them. In this case the tobacco company has to at least take some blame. They mislead the plaintiffs by minimizing their products effect and therefore causing the plaintiffs serious lung cancer.

Cause and effect isn't all or nothing. Tobacco companies providing cigarettes are just one of many endless factors influencing things on a smaller scale.

I'm not really for or against smoking. If you want to do it, and it'll make you happy for a moment, do it. What really pisses me off are all these cities banning smoking in public places. While getting smoke blown right into my face is annoying, the jackass who keeps blasting, "Walkin' on Sunshine" over and over again across the hall, is much worse. Everybody does something that's bad for them and/or annoying to others. I ,for example, tend to sing show tunes all the time.

Everybody knows smoking is bad for you. If you know it's bad for you, why do you do it? Well, same reason anybody does anything, it makes them feel good and forget about their problems. Smokers figure that they're willing to sacrifice some of their own health in order to feel better. To each his own I say, but no sense blaming an entire corporation for your mistakes. If you end up with cancer because you smoked a lot it's your own fault.
