Easily the best vampire film ever made, bar none.

Bar. None.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1139797/

It is fucking class. I know you're all thinking "ugh a foreign film but with subtitles, skip that shit" like I did, but don't because it's a wicked film. In the literal sense as well as the descriptive sense.

Its probably the only film I've ever watched that successfully blends horror and drama together to create somekind of sick drama/horror lovechild hybrid.

it's set in 1980s Sweden and it's about this loner kid called Oskar who has no mates and gets bullied all the time and wants to kill his bullies and make them squeal like pigs (he says this over and over in the film), who befriends this other loner who moves in next to him in their apartment block. She's a bit of weirdo too and it turns out shes a vampire and this crazy love-ish kind of relationship springs up between the two 12 year olds.

It's easily one of the creepiest films I've ever seen, despite their being very few special effects and practically no gore - at least not any of that shite overthetop hollywood gore.

The horror aspect of the movie is done in such a subtle and macabre fashion and not at all "IM IN YO FACE, MAKIN YOU SCREAM" kind of horror that it is guaranteed to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

the bit where the old bloke knocks out the passer by and hangs him up in the tree to drain his blood made my skin crawl

it's basically what Twilight should have been. Like, Meyer had the right idea (youknow, human falls in love with vampire) but her execution was horrendously shit.

Super movie, totally underrated.

Would watch again.

I liked it.

Although I think it's better if you can't understand Swedish. The acting was so-so at points. We have a tradition here where actors tend to act in so-so ways (we call it theatre-realism).

I thought the acting was alright, but Oskar creeped me the fuck out. His indifference to everything was just "eugh".

I liked it, and I like a lot of foreign films with subtitles. As long as it isn't dubbed.

I loved it. Oskar and Eli over Edward and Bella anyday.

I don't know if it's the best vampire movie ever made, but it was damn amazing. This is the kind of horror/drama I love. Also, like all good foreign films, I forgot I was even reading subtitles after a while.

It's kinda sad that it came out around the same time that Twilight did. Such opposite ends of spectrum.

It really didn't get the coverage it deserved. Everyones all like 'OMG TWILIGHT IS SO GOOD I LUFF EDWARD. Honestly Eli is such a better vampire and its a better movie and book.

The US distributor for this film was on a forum I go to when it came out, and was asking about how it compares to the trendy vampire genre coming out around the same time. We all agreed that those things suck and discussed why they appeal to the crowd they do (all of whom I hate). Unlike the mainstream, this actually tried to be original and creative, rather than throw in enough established cliches to make sure a big market segment gets hit by something.

Buy it on DVD. I've been very interested in seeing this since I heard about it back in the fall, but I've yet to have the chance to. The only place it's on sale here is the local independent theater, and they're selling is for about $27, and I haven't paid more than $10 on a DVD in a fucking while.

I don't really understand why a movie being "foreign" is so amazing. The only difference is that the language differs.

Foreign films are a taste of culture outside of Hollywood's America.

Being foreign doesn't exactly make something good. However, when a foreign film is good it seems really great to us because it gives us something we're not used to.

It's actually $27 good? Mind you I have the money. I'm just very wary of spending it on flicks I haven't seen.
