Can any self respecting Metal Gear Solid fan tell me what day it is today?
ANSWER: The Big Shell incident in Metal Gear Solid 2. On April 29, 2009 in the games timeline, Raiden was dispatched at the oil rig. Give or take a few hours and codec calls later, Arsenal should be crashing on Federal Hall. Keep your eyes open, east coasters.

What? Were the games meant to be parodies or something?
Most of my experience with them involves watching my roommate play the latest edition on his PS3. I think more fun was had by us making dick jokes about the main character's name than was gained from playing the game itself. Seriously, there is more movie than game there... which may have been cool if it wasn't based on an absurd, cluster-fucked plot and boring 2-dimensional characters.
Whatever. It looked nice at least.

I think it was a reaction to you saying that you thought the games had the "dumbest story ever" because you didn't understand it. That's more of a reflection on you, not the game.

Oh sorry. I meant that I don't understand the appeal, rather than I don't understand what's going on. The latter was pretty easy...what with the hours upon hours of characters tediously explaining every last bloody detail instead of accomplishing anything.

I actually like that stupid people don't have any idea what's going on, it keeps the morons out of the picture.
Sadly enough this sort of thing can't happen with Call of Duty, as I am reminded of by my headset every single time I play :ahe:

You are judging the storyline of 4 games based off what you watched your roommate play of the 4th game, you fucking moron.
Um yeah. I'm judging the story based on... the story? How is that dumb?
I've seen/know most of it. It's not like I was in the room for 10 minutes and went 'This game sucks.'

That's like watching the first half hour of the Shining before getting to the good stuff. You can't form a sound opinion on anything without knowing your shit first.
MGS4 is a 40-odd hour masterpiece. Gamespot's Game of the Year 2008. Plus, that's the final chapter of the story. Newbies are gonna get lost real quick if #4 was their first MGS game.

The storyline to MGS, although outright confusing at times, is one of the best ever taken into a video game. Hideo Kojima took what most people do with movies or books and made a video game (series) into an epic franchise. Yes, to someone who has only seen the fourth the game may SEEM dumb, but it is by no means. It's an intricate basket woven together with likable reoccurring characters and politics.
That's not even including the gameplay, which is unprecedented and unparalleled. Tactical Espionage Action was created with MGS1, and has only been even close to recreated through Splinter Cell.

Please give us a little synopsis as to what you think happened in the fourth game.
...and if you look it up on the internet somewhere first, then you have a tiny wiener.
This thread is fucking stupid.

Wait, there's a dick joke in the main characters name?
His name is Snake. How hard is that to figure out? I mean, it's not funny but shit you couldn't solve that one Sherlock?

God- You bunch of fucking smartarses.
The storyline to MGS, although outright confusing at times, is one of the best ever taken into a video game.
The story of Metal Gear Solid isn't really a masterpiece. It's about a mercenary who sneaks into the enemy base and fights a robot dinosaur with a rocket launcher. They kidnap the president at one point and fight with swords in robot suits. It's like an 80's action movie did a crossover with an 80's anime. I mean yeah it's great compared to most mainstream games, but it's easy to see why some people don't like it. Most of the characters are wacky charicatures.
What's good is the storytelling techniques. You spend alot of time just getting to know the characters through codec conversations, and the voicing was way better than everything else round about MGS1 and 2. Codecs are funny because most action games would never let you stop everything and just listen to a conversation between some guys.
Also the cutscenes are massively cinematic and a bunch of fun to see. I could talk about this for fucking ages but whatevs, long story short:
The way the story's presented gets you really involved and can seem amazing, but on paper it's pretty doofy.
The world's best soldier gets cloned, but one of them is evil. He tries to take over the world with robot dinosaurs that can shoot nukes and the help of a team of super villains, but the good clone stops him every time because he fights for liberty.
I've not played 4 btw, my favourite one was 2. I think the idea of playing as old Snake actually does kick up the story a fair bit.
Anyway don't act all dickish to people who aren't into it. There's a guy in every game who shits himself ffs.

I laughed at this because it's true at how ridiculous the story is on paper.
Presentation can do amazing things. I mean, look at Independence Day. Let me summarize the plot for you: "Aliens invade Earth and start blowing things up. Humanity unites and kills them."

I think you have missed the point I made completely. You are judging a series of FOUR GAMES based on what you've seen of the FOURTH game. Of COURSE the storyline isn't going to make sense to you, IT'S THE FOURTH FUCKING GAME.
EDIT: In fact, I'm wrong, it's SIX games. The original two for NES are all part of the same storyline as well.

Congratulations, I like your tasteful use of the the word "fuckspike", it is my word of the day. As for Metal Gear, the entire series as a whole is awesome and the 4th one is a masterpiece. Anybody who hasnt played the 4th I urge you to do so (if you dont have a PS3 then rent one or better yet steal one, jail time for MGS4 would be a worthy cause).
