There has been rumours going around recently of a FF6 remake for the PS3/X360. What is arguably the best final fantasy ever, in terms of story and playability, will it be even better with these modern day graphics?

I will definitely buy this if they do it. Will you?

Also sidenote: if they do I cant wait to see modern locke and kefka. :mmyes:

I didn't start it, I've seen it dotted around the place but I cant find the link to the square enix bit of proof. They also said they might.

I quite agree.

They remade III and IV for DS, and it is very likely they are going to remake V for DS aswell. :D
It's only right to remake the Nintendo games on a Nintendo console. So, I think VI will be remade for DS. The SNES games fit the DS so well.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions should be left to VII, VIII and IX.
Although I am completely against the idea of remaking VII...

Back to the point - a PS3 or Xbox 360 version of VI wouldn't be right. DS remake is a lot more likely.

Yeah a remake with the exact dialogue spoken would reveal how retarded the writing actually was and a rewrite would just piss off the fanboys, myself included.

I couldn't get into ff6 when I played it on the ps1, the whole thing felt slow-paced. If they remake it (with a decent combat system) I'll definitely give it a go.

i kinda wanna see it in better quality, to see terra in an hd light since she was my favorite character in that game, and kefka's GOTTA be creepy

though it does take the whole charm away from the game when you get rid of sprites

The remakes on the DS worked well and were faithfully recreated, if they dont fuck it up it will be awesome and definitely on my list of games to buy. Just makes me wonder though, with so many games being remade have they run out of ideas for games or are they milking it for all it's worth and thereby milking us? Not that I particularly mind being milked...

Seriously the only thing I have ever dreamed of since I had a ps3 was either a V, VI or VII remake for the console. Its like a dream come true. And since square enix is square enix, it can milk whatever the fuck it wants.

Uncle Ulty in HD would not be heresy! It would be fantastic! Imagine the scene where Terra is on the raft and nearly gets pulled in by Ultros. And then sabin diving in after Ultros. I'd also fucking love to see Ifrit and Shiva become HD.

To an extent I guess they are, but I buy them for the story which is always different. Well, except for that godawful X-2, but we dont speak of that.

FFX-2 had a good battle system (similar to FFV) and if you look past the girl-power shit it's not too bad. At the very least, it's short and you can skip most cutscenes so you don't have to spend too much time on it.

I would buy a Final Fantasy 3/6 remake in a heartbeat regardless of the console. Definitely my favourite FF and one of my favourite games all together. And the idea of a giant talking squid in HD intrigues me.

Please for the love of god don't make another game for the DS, its bad enough they put Crono Trigger on there. I will never buy another handheld game system. I like the comfort of being able to relax and play a game on my tv. Looking down at a small screen for too long makes my neck ache and my eyes hurt.

Someone mentioned the whole Final Fantasy VII remake thingo and I always wondered why the don't just just re-release the original on the PlayStation Network or whatever. Just charge a pretty penny and let them have at it. I mean, wouldn't it be a lot easier to iron out compatibility issues and do it like that then completely remake it?

Oh and I don't own a PS3 so if they already have then my bad.

Any self respecting Fantasy fan should have at least one copy of FF7. Those who don't have it won't never get it... they just have empty their bank accounts. It costs a whole lot more than a brand new PS3 game......

Not necessarily. Ebay quite often has FF7 games going for $30-$40. They're almost always the greatest hits versions though. If you want to get the original, non-greatest hits version then you're going to pay a pretty penny. Luckily I bought mine when it was first released :)

Yoshitaka Amano's drawings for the Final Fantasy series have always been good. I wish his work would be used for more games.

The original game's soundtrack was written by Uematsu...why have it remastered? It was already amazing.

As in, take the MIDI scores from the original game and replace the old soundfonts from the SNES cartridge with professional orchestral ones.

I am against all remakes on the PS3, as I do not own one. ^__^ However, I am a big fan of the Final Fantasy series. It drained many hours of my life, but I can't seem to get into the ones on the DS.

I'm fairly sure he meant that he didn't get as drawn into the story of the DS FF's like he did to the originals.

Heh you know if I do a google search of FF6 remake I get this thread?

I want a remake of FF6 to the PS3 or better platform. The reason being that regardless of what old fogies like us think about "ruining a classic" or whatever the hell excuse you want to have, there's a huge group of gamers, generations worth, that never played the game, and won't simply because it's too old a format, being graphically sprite based, and musically midi based. Say what you want about that outlook to gaming, lord knows I don't really respect it myself, but that's the way it is. I want Final Fantasy 6 to reach a new generation of gamers and it's only going to do that if it gets a major overhaul, being put on something similar to the FFX engine, and getting all the old cut scenes ripped out and replaced with fancy new fully rendered ones and with a live orchestra recording the original songs.

Here I am 31 years old, trying to get my 7 year old daughter who LOVES the FF4 remake on the DS to play FF6 for the GBA or SNES and she's just completely uninterested and it's driving me insane!

So that's my take on it. I think they should completely overhaul the game to bring it up to date, if for no other reason than to reach the younger gamers who would otherwise probably never play it.

In my opinion, they should keep the best alone. If it is in fact the "best" to a lot of people, it can only get worse with a remake.

I'm not saying it being better cannot be done, but the odds of Square Enix doing it right is up to you to think about.

Those were more like ports than remakes.

I consider the new Turok and Wolfenstein as remakes.
