Coming to you!

SOOON. It stars a great boy who can manipulate not just anything, not just any old manner. Not just water, or fire, or even earth, no.

This boy can manipulate the very air you breathe like a storm from the heavens.

I hope this turns out well. The show was actually pretty damned good.

I like the Fire Nation ships. I'm not too sure how I feel about everyone being blaringly white, though.

Not-so-typical M. Night. I'll take a watch and count how many times he uses fluttering curtains as symbolism.

This actually looks pretty interesting. I saw the trailer attached to Transformers and I've gotta say it doesn't look too bad. I'm not familiar with the source material. Isn't this a show or something?

Yeah it's a show. Those who like it say it's awesome. I see it as the same as Pokemon but that's me.

Awesome sauce. I can't wait, I was a big fan of the cartoon to the point where I wanted to be a fire-bender obsessively. I hope this turns out good.

I thought that trailer looked like shit. Actually I don't enjoy many of M. Nights movies, he always finds a way to fuck them up. I saw a list of the cast and I was completely disappointed. Hopefully I'm proven wrong and this movie turns out to be awesome.

Avatar was a gay show.
Only M.Night's first 3 or 4 movies were any good. This looks close to the source( compared to stuff like Dragonball anyways) but thats more a negative.

You guys are all gay. Dragonball Z was the greatest show to ever grace our moving picture generators.

Did anyone else who watched the show think that the trailer had a completely different feel to it? Because if it wasn't for the title I might not have recognized it.

I saw the cartoon on NickToons a couple times when I was in school. Compared to most children's cartoons nowadays: Actually pretty good.

There's another film comin up called AVATAR, but that's completely unrelated.

I watched the whole series because someone uploaded it to the scratch drive in university. I liked it.

RainbowKermit

Besides the actors, the movie looks pretty solid. I'd prefer if they stuck with a young cast like in the cartoon, but then again, where are you going to find good kid actors? Trailer was nice for it's effects and story telling, other than that it was just decent.

I don't know if Shymalan can pull it off well. While he's not exactly a bad director, he just rarely hits what he's going for as well as I'd like. And this is a big difference for him. But I obviously haven't seen it yet. Could work.

CnGy
07-03-2009, 7:41 AM
It could work. As in it being very funny. Did you see him doing that shit. I CAN BLOW OUT CANDLES HAHA. I AM POWERFUL.

When are people going to start coming up with original material again?

That cartoon sucked, and M. Night Shymahamalyahahalan is an unexceptional filmmaker. His movies suck balls.

CnGy
07-03-2009, 2:04 PM
Lots of people like M. Night. >: (

CatsLikeCatnip
07-03-2009, 6:31 PM
You know what sucks? M. Night probably is a main character in the movie like he always is >.> and his expectations or low, ever since Lady in the Water. Sixth Sense was last good movie he has done. Hopefully he doesn't mess this one up.

Casalen
07-03-2009, 8:03 PM
Worth mentioning: it doesn't matter if it's different than some shitty cartoon you like, a different feel or whatever else. It's a different production. People who create based on other works have no need to hold back their own vision. It's hard for fanboys to get I know, I've been there, too, but that's how it works.

CnGy
07-04-2009, 11:49 AM
Pretty sure this one is entirely aimed at fangirls and boys.

Or it wouldn't be made. Sure, it looks like M. Night probably made it a bit darker (which his great), but don't think for one second that the only real aim of this movie is something besides money.

RaygunShaun
07-05-2009, 11:44 AM
I still think The Sixth Sense is his only good film.

Signs is okay, too.

Miss Freeze
07-07-2009, 7:30 PM
The movie will probably fall flat of the show. It's like when a book is turned into a movie. It's hard enough to accept the characters as you seen them on screne vs how you imagined them but now you're comparing character to characters. With any luck it'll has cool effects and maybe a fun dialog but the show will always be better.

Good point. Even though I like the concept of the show, I never really got into it. Probably would have if it was Japanese. I like all the little quirks and ideas, I just don't think it was executed well. Too childish.

Plus, why air? Who here is telling me they would pass up the power to enflame someone in a firey blaze or split the earth apart to swallow there enemies into the pits of hell for the power to knock someone over with a strong breeze, thus rather harshly irritating them?

And yeah, what the fuck is up with M. Night Shyamalan? You know he wrote the screenplay for Stuart Little, right? And he's making an Unbreakable 2. The first Unbreakable wasn't popular enough to earn a sequel.

It's an inherited power.

Although the Avatar can and will learn Water, Earth, and Fire as well, because he's the Avatar. :nerd:

But they weren't invented yet hurr!

Also, he can fly. The fire emperor or whatever his name is can fly too, though the rest of the fire-using dudes can't.

Casalen
07-22-2009, 12:10 AM
I've long thought that if special powers were divided like that and I had to choose one it would be air. It may not be necessarily as impressive as fire, but it's by far the most versatile and practical. And, if done right, can be pretty damn impressive. Better for home use certainly, since you don't want to light your house on fire accidentally. Note I've never seen this series, so I don't know how they use it here.

Metalhead636

RainbowKermit

My knowledge of the character does not extend beyond that trailer.

He can also trap people in an airless bubble and suck the air out of your lungs.

Also, water benders can bend the water in your blood and control your every move (bloodbending).

I've watched the entire series at least 3 times. And if you're wondering why Aang doesn't mercilessly kill everyone near him is because air benders are brought up as peaceful monks who only stir shit up if they have to.

Also, he can fly. The fire emperor or whatever his name is can fly too, though the rest of the fire-using dudes can't.

It's because they haven't developed the skills needed to do that, while he did because he's the firelord.

I just erm, magically, got all the episodes of the cartoon without paying for them and now im watching it. I love the show so I'm absolutely going to see the movie. I'm sure its going to ruin the series for me and just be yet another could've been amazing but was done horrible by M. Night Shyamalan. Then again, the writer and creator of the cartoon series is one of the lead writers for the movie, so there IS always hope.

I watched the show, and the trailer, I definetly like the show, a lot. The trailer seems shit.

A lot of friends watched it too, we had a lot of discussions as for why airbending was supposed to be useful. We didnt get an answer, fire turned out to be the best because you dont depend on having water on you, or rocks. Air would be the same except because, well, its air, and they didnt use it in large cuantities in the show.

Still, i dont like how movies are now sequels or based on books, shows, biographys and stuff. I'm sick of it. Cant they come up with original stories? It's not that hard.

It is when a lot of shit has already been created and invented. And when you're influenced by everything thats already been put out there, it's hard somethings to think outside the box and be original.

On track with the thread, I watched the first season of the series and thought it was pretty fun and entertaining. Watching them turn the cartoon into a real life movie will certainly be interesting and possibly even worth dragging a couple friends to go see it in theaters.

I thought the show would be complete garbage, but I started watching it and was really surprised. It's a lot deeper and more interesting than I expected - especially in the second season. I'm actually really interested in how this movie will go.

Iceshade
07-23-2009, 12:38 AM
At the risk of sounding like a clone, I was also surprised by this show. I mean it's still a little kids show and everything, but it's well-written and the concept of controlling elements in this way is intriguing. I'll be checking on this movie now and then.

Casalen
07-23-2009, 3:09 AM
It has nothing to do with the inability to find good original material. Readers are swamped by scripts, most of which suck, a few of which don't. There is no shortage. Plenty are approved and waiting. But things like this have an attached audience, marketing strategy and demographic already in place, things of that nature. It's a safer investment. Hollywood isn't exactly like it was now that things are so open; one screw up and an executive can easily lose his job and be out of one for a long time. That said, there are a pretty large number of very original films, even from the big studios. You just have to look in the right places. Sorry to go a bit off topic on that one.

And shove off, all of you. Air is an awesome choice.

Allen
07-23-2009, 3:09 AM

He can be 10 miles away and still suck the air out of your lungs if he's a powerful enough airbender. :ahe:

EDIT: I forgot to mention the full moon thing. Also, an eclipse prevents firebenders from having powers, whilst a comet puts them at maximum power. I don't know about earthbending being weak since practically everything is made of earth in the show. Except for wood and metal, but Toph managed to master metalbending. I could go on and on.

On a related note, Toph isn't even on the character list on the movie. That sucks.

airbenders... there was only one so no special additive that i know of..
