I have no idea if the term "ethnic punk" is appropriate but I couldn't think of another one. In any case, this thread is about bands that combine ethnic or traditional music with punk (or other modern genre for that matter).

I've come across some really good bands such as Gogol Bordello (http://www.last.fm/music/Gogol+Bordello) or Flogging Molly (http://www.last.fm/music/Flogging+Molly). I guess Goran Bregovic and the No Smoking Orchestra fits in here as well.

My question is, do you like this sort of music? Do you find it innovative? Interesting? Utter shit? Also, what other bands of this kind would you recommend?

Maybe 'folk punk' or in the case of Gogol Bordello, 'gypsy punk'.
Or 'celtic punk' when referring to Molly.

Yeah I like it, I really like traditional music and the punk turn makes it interesting enough to bother listening to.

Within the whole folk punk scope I only have a few bands. This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb are pretty rad. The Cat Empire are less punky and more traditional, but they play a cool mix of Cuban whatever you call it with the horns and everything. Like a jazzy ska sort of thing. They are cool, whatever. Very cool.

I agree on the Cat Empire. They are wonderful. Especially "The Lost Song", which is a masterpiece.

About the title, yeah, I didn't want it to be "Folk/Gypsy/Celtic/Whatever Punk" so I thought "ethnic" somehow comprises all that.

Anyway, going to check up This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb.

If you like Flogging Molly, The Pogues and The Dubliners are great bands similar to them and generally considered the founders of the Celtic Punk style. Dropkick Murphys are another popular choice, though they are a more Scottish sound rather then Irish. The Real McKenzies are a Scottish Celtic Punk band from Vancouver that are very good, check out "Pour Decisions," I consider it there best album. Great Big Sea is a good accoustic band that has folk sound, though they're a little less Punkish then the others.
