This band is lovely. Seriously. One of the best bands ever.

They fuse jazz and hard rock perfectly

Their self-titled would be utterly perfect if it wasn't for that Moonchild bullshit. Goddamn is that song a buzzkill.

Do they get their band name from the Stephen King character?

Wait, turns out its the other way around

Moonchild is fucking awesome. And King Crimson is probably one of the best progressive rock acts out there, and one of the better darker progrock bands (like Van Der Graaf or Comus or Anekdoten or Morte Macabre). Robert Fripp is an absolutely awesome guitarist, Tony Levin with his Chapman stick, Bill Bruford is fucking Bill Bruford and then there's Greg Lake too. Their best albums are In The Court of the Crimson King and Red and Discipline.

Hats Off how do you like Moonchild. Yes the first 2 minutes are bad-ass but the rest of the 7 minutes are pretentious not-even-music bullshit.

I still consider ItCotCK one of the best albums ever though besides that.

Disicpline is oookaay. It sounds way too 80's though.

Red is pretty damn good though.

In the Wake of Posiden, Lizard, and Crimson King are probably my favorite albums from them. I haven't listened to Thrak or Construck of Light or their newest one yet though.

Moonchild is fucking awesome.

How? It's not even music, it sounds like they forgot the rest of the song and decided to noodle a little bit.

I'm all for testing the limits of what qualifies as music, but that huge middle section is boring, and frankly, lazy.

Well I for one love Avant-Garde. Pretentious, perhaps. Boring, wouldn't think so mate.

But I get your points, but you have to have the right mindset to like it. It's like a good song by a RIO band (avant garde prog). Bunch of sounds to you maybe, but it's something more too me. Almost sounding too pretentious here, but it's like picasso; ugly as hell, yet do some odd people like it. Try and listen to some other avant-garde and you might get it.

Don't get me wrong, I like avant done right. I just thought that Moonchild wasn't done particularly well. In most avant garde, there is at least a little bit to hold your attention, and that song pretty much lacked that.

ya like a lot of King Crimson is avant-garde. Like, Larks in Aspiac -that's pretty unusual, but atleast that song is good.

Liking the majority of moonchild is sorta..strange to me. I mean, there's a difference between soft sound and NO sound.

Awesome as hell band, I don't think any band really sounds like them at all.

The difference is that other avant-garde acts don't really have such a strong connection to psychedelia and acid rock as King Crimson. Pink Floyd's Ummagumma is pretty Avant-Garde and it's really just a bunch of sounds.
