View Full Version : Life Changing Habits
BlackHood

So I recently made some changes to my habits that have had a huge impact on my life:
I now get up every morning at 6am and either do a work out or watch the news or stuff like that. Its only 1.5 hours earlier that I used to but I get a noticeable amount more work done in a day now. It also means that my instead of rushing like a lunatic to do my 90 minute commute in time, I have plenty of time and don't stress at all.
I've also recently halved the speed at which I walk. I used to rush around like I'm on fire, but I've chilled right down and my stress levels have fallen through the floor.
They are two tiny changes, but they made a big difference, so I want to know what kind of stuff Explosm does that makes life just that little bit easier.
No Drug or Nun jokes.

Well for once I have something nice to say near you BlackHood....
Yeah ever since I started on my final two years of school, I relaxed and my grades sky rocketed, and I did all this by watching TV. Yep this is probably the first case where someone has gotten better grades from watching TV.
The new nun goes to her first confession. She tells the priest that she has a terrible secret. The priest then tells her that her secret is safe in the sanctity of the confessional.
She says, "Father, I never wear panties under my habit."
The priest chuckles and says, "That's not so serious, Sister Bernadette. Say five Hail Marys, five Our Fathers, and do five cartwheels on your way to the altar."

I started working out regularly at the gym last year and since then, I've felt a lot better about myself. I'm stronger, faster, more confident and I've managed to bag a girlfriend a lot easier nowadays.
I've also started doing a few situps and listen to a bit of music every night to help me ease into bed easier. A lot better than straight off the games console.

Like others, I'm forcing myself to go to the gym, I'm also eating a lot better, so I'm getting fitter.
I really shocked myself when I could only do 8 proper pushups, so I signed up to the gym and worked my ass off, now I can do close to 30 and it's only been about a month, noticing a difference in other areas too, so It's really a self image and confidence boost.

I was similar; one tip to getting better at press-ups is to butterfly them. That means putting your hands so your thumbs touch and doing full depressions. Fucking hard but it makes regular press-ups a walk in the park.
I also started boxing because its both a strength workout and a cardio workout. It made more difference to my physique than rugby ever did.

I used to have energy drinks all the time. I stopped largely because of the damage it did to my bank account, but today I had another and I realised that they fucked with the regularity of my shits, made me feel sick all day and made my eyelids twitch and all this other stuff. It's freaking messed. I've been so much better since I stopped.
I started masturbating 13 times and a day and now when I have sex I can last up to 9 hours.
BlackHood
08-17-2009, 7:49 AM
Regular masturbation reduces the time it takes to ejaculate. Unless you're trying not to get off, which is just dumb.
regular masturbation increases the time it takes to ejaculate, thus making you last longer.
I started doing push up's every day. It didn't change anything, but I can take at least 40 now.

The first habit I remember putting effort into changing was making sure I put my cigarette butts in a bin instead of just tossing them away or down a drain. I still have a lot of habits I could benefit from changing like a better sleeping pattern and the like.

As an anti-capitalist, I try to buy as much stuff as possible from smaller corporations and try to avoid stuff like Coca, Mars and 'modern' candy. Instead, I drink water, local beer, and eat lots of knäckebröd.
I also smile at girls (and people in general), instead of looking angry at everybody like I did 2 months ago. People look nicer at me now.
Also, stop looking at porn. Lechery is a sin.

If you're still buying things from companies, aren't you still involved in the capitalist system? Whatever, I don't need to start debates everywhere.
I got a promotion that technically hasn't taken effect yet, and so I've been spending more time at work arguing with my boss and listening to complaints from my "underlings." It's done great things to my stress levels and sleeping and eating habits.

The main problem is that most things are owned by large/expensive companies. So yes, I am still involved in the capitalist system. But I try to be uninvolved as much as possible. By, as main example, not buying stuff from (huge) corporations.
I wish I was older, I would live an agrarian life.

Stop jacking it for 2 weeks, see how long you last, then jack it 3 times and see how long you last the fourth, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I've also stopped drinking so much pop, and it isn't really a noticeable change seeing as how I didn't drink TOO much in the past, but it probably is just a lot healthier.

Related to the smiling (People like Metalhead will probarly call me a poser for this);
I stopped wearing 'explicit' metalclothing like combat boots, leather bickerjacket, my armless jeansjacket full of patches and stopped regular wearing of all-black clothing. Because of this, including a haircut, girls (and people in general) look nicer or neutral at me, instead of giving me a 'Ewww, look at that scary/weird metalguy'-look.

Call me stubborn, but I'd never stop wearing my biker jacket or all-black clothing. If people are going to brand me with a stereotype purely because of how I look then they can go fuck themselves anyway. The way I dress makes me feel comfortable and confident, and I'd rather feel good about myself than look like a twat and have people not be afraid of me.

I can't say I've changed such little things much. I've always walked slowly, I like to think time moves for me, not me for time. One day that will come back to bite me pretty hard, I'm sure. I've recently tried to swap from energy drinks to coffee in the morning. Less money spent, and healthier. Unfortunately it's not as much of a caffiene hit (well, i could have stronger coffee but I still don't like the taste much).
Most changes I make are on a social level. Changing friend groups a few years ago was a bloody good idea, and I've recently made a conscious effort to be a good person. Like, help people carry prams up stairs and shit. I used to just ignore it.
Similarily, I'm trying to not make as many jokes and actually think them through. Not working yet, but change is slow.

It makes it taste better and it doesn't dilute the caffeine. But it will also stain your teeth more.

Not to be rude, but adding anything to your coffee will "dilute" the caffiene. There's nothing wrong with it anyway, regardless what you add to it, you're still getting the same caffiene hit. Only way to maximise caffiene intake would be to eat fucking coffee beans, get back on the energy drinks, or start taking Pro-Plus.

First off, Metalhead636 is a pretty big poser.
Wearing combat boots and a patched jacket all the time is pretty silly, I usually only do that at gigs or pissups with other metalheads. I usually rock the leather jacket, blue, black or grey jeans and a band tee without getting weird looks even though I have long hair and a beard as well. You must be around some pretty stupid people if they're looking at you funny for wearing jeans and a leather jacket and having long hair.

with our capitalist system, you're never sure
Of course you can be sure. If you're against globalization and exploitation, the only option is to buy primarily local goods. Which are really obvious when you find them. Seriously though, it sounds like you need to think these things through a bit more, maybe read up on it a bit. If you want to be conscious of the impact of your purchases, research the things you want to buy, especially agricultural products. There are some good non-local ones that fit, depending on your ideology.
For the thread... I haven't done any real changes for a while. Five years ago or so I stopped eating junk food almost entirely, no sodas, no caffeine of any sort except when necessary, paying attention to everything that goes in. I'm much better off now. I developed a bit of a caffeine addiction for a while, and more importantly I stopped because it contributed to muscle restlessness. But there are a lot of advantages to limiting yourself with that. Some is okay, but having a daily cup of coffee is a poor choice. I don't know when I started exercising close to daily, but that has helped as well. Can't really think of anything else, at least not in the category of 'habit'. I can think of a lot of things I should be doing, but not ones I have done.
For whoever mentioned the lack of a caffeine hit... try caffeine tablets. About as direct as it gets. Those things have helped me with the occasional all night work session.
hollywood_maggot

Caffeine tablets are probably pushing it, but thanks anyway.
And pure_hatred...caffiene isn't a taste, adding milk will not dilute it. But adding more coffee is probably going to add more caffiene...

But you're an adult. I'm a teenager. All the pretty girls of my age are casual, and all the girls that listen to metal are ugly and usualy listen to shit like Slipknot. So to get a nice girfriend, you need to be somewhat casual. And yes, I know that sounds very poser. But I really don't want a metalgirlfriend. But that doesn't mean I don't like metal anymore. I've tried to make my humour less sexist, as that pissed off my friend. Had a slip up today at a driving seminar thing, but otherwise I'm getting the hang of not making female quips. I've also tried smiling more, but apparently my mild smile looks pitying. Gotta work on that.
In relation to being br00tal metal, I've got long hair myself. Any tranny photos of me you may see include my real hair, because wigs are for faggots. I'm not a metalhead as most assume, and I've considered cutting it just to dissuade people from saying so, but I love my hair and I could never part with it.
Other than the relatively minor and obvious thing of not being a sexist prick I haven't changed at all, though I need too, just don't have the motivation really.

By ideology I mean exactly what limits you put on yourself for giving into purchases, and why.
I'm not judgmental, I try not to be, but people put themselves out how they want to be seen. There's nothing wrong with being a metalhead in any form (if that isn't also your username here), but it sends a message when you decide to make sure everyone else can categorize you as such. A message that doesn't always fit with the rest of the world. I'm not saying people should go out of their way to fit in, but if you always wear leather, chains and so forth people will see you just as that image, and not whatever else might be available. So, in social contact, that draws the interest of people interested only in that image. I'm not for getting rid of things like that, but people should be able to limit their style or at least switch to something else when the situation calls for it. Like with Ziggy, it makes sense in concerts, but not everywhere. I don't know if that made sense, it's a bit late for me to be on here.
Since I want to have some decent disclosure here, I'll point out that I get hair cuts half a year or a year apart, and never higher than my ears.

Ironicly, listening to other genres was common for the Norwegian artist of the Second Wave of Black Metal. Varg Vikernes, the most renowned Norse metalhead, even admitted to prefer going to danceclubs and dancing with beautiful women instead of going to a concert full of ugly, sweating guys.

Akin to what was said earlier in this post, I outgrew my baby goth period.
Instead of mindlessly following what I see from other goths, I'm making up my own style now. Sure, people go: "OMG, you're wearing (insert colour) I thought you were goth!" but a simple "so?" mostly shuts them up.
Also, I quit using earphones. I started getting my ears pierced, and with some, it's been getting harder to get in earphones, to which I clung like it was a buoy. Lately, I've been trying headphones, and they're much more comfortable.

First found explosm, then this forum. This is gonna be so much fun. I also quit coffee, started to buy as much organic products as possible, tried bikini waxing and got a new job. Uh let me see... I am going to start yoga.
No coffee is better for my health and the organic food makes me feel all good and fuzzy about myself. I'm not sure how the yoga will turn out but I hope it helps me get a little less choleric. The bikini waxing didn't do much I just felt like mentioning it. Maybe it helps me dealing with the trauma.

I quit drinking soft drinks about a month ago, and without all the caffeine, I can actually get a good nights sleep.

These, I thought they're named blouse. I am mistaken??
Edit: Oh, and fuck not being a sexist prick. Everybody deep down is a sexist prick, they just hide it.
Uh... dude, I'm not a sexist prick and I never have been. Most of my friends are female too.

I think they prefer the terms 'bitches' or 'hoes'.

I don't think that means that you're not sexist, just that you're gay.

Uh, I have no female friends, does that make me a lesbian? I must admit, it doesn't keep me from being sexist. If so, I could add yet another life changing habit to my list and stop bikini waxing. Or buy a strap-on. Just asking, before I commit myself to more misguided dick-sucking.

There is nothing wrong with misguided dick-sucking. Godspeed.

Thought you might say that.
I just got a vib for my birthday. I still have to find out if it's gonna change my life. Any bets?

I might start drinking water, that seems like a good idea.
I've started acting like a dick to most people, which is pretty fun. I'm getting good at it, so I suppose that expands my dickery horizons. I'm no longer am I bound by anybody's moral codes or etiquette, which feels quite liberating.
I stopped playing World of Warcraft. Now that's life changing.
When I quit WoW, I thought it was going to be life changing. All I did was start playing other games, and spending the same exact time on the computer. It was pretty sad.
Anyway, I recently started carrying a small notebook in my pocket wherever I go. I'm a very forgetful person, so it helps me remember stuff. Also, if I get a good idea I can write it down and remember it later. Very useful.
I stopped drinking the shitty 'household name' types of beers, and started drinking local micro-brews. Holy shit, it has made all the difference.
Sometimes, I find myself drinking at 11am, not to get plastered, but just enjoy it.
Portland OR, claimed to be the micro-brew capital of the US, and I am taking full advantage. :)

Wow, how early.
I think yoga did change something. Since everyone here seems to have anger management issues you should really try it. For about half an hour after that I was in a good mood without yelling at anybody.
stopped playing xbox 9 hours a day and brought it down to 2-3 and thats to talk to ppl seeing as texting is boring as fuck, ive had a conversation that took 4 inbox clearings and about 2 1/2 hours, i could have finished it talking in about 15 mins give or take.
I wake up at 6.30 am and go to bed at 10 pm I feel so much more relaxed and ready going to school.

I've cut down alot of the time I play games (except for when Scribblenauts comes out) so I get loads of more time to do stuff. I've also started getting up at 6.30am and going bed at like 1am, and drinking more energy drinks which has really fucked me up.

Maybe your next challenge in life could be to learn the english language?
I've started waking up around 6 am- 8 am every morning. I love it because my days do not feel so wasted. I also have classes between 8am- 4pm at the latest. Then usually work from 5:30pm- 11:00pm. This has made me a lot more tired, but has also forced me to keep up or get ahead of my assignments, which is great because the only thing I'm stressed about is how tired I am, not whether or not I have to finish an assignment.
