This is probably a dumb idea.
If you're as much of a loser as I am, you remember that the Rap Competition that was supposed to be finished by now is still technically in its first round. This is fucking dumb.
A lot of the participants (ok, maybe two or three) really wanted the competition to go through, and posted raps whenever they were asked for. Because these numbers are too small for another competition, I propose...
Um, another rap.
This is entirely speculation, and I'm pretty sure I have no idea what I'm talking about, but for some reason I think a single song with multiple posters combining their hip-hop talents to create one masterpiece sounds awesome. We could rap about the site, diabetes, how fat Rob is, whatever.
Because I'm borderline retarded, I would definitely not be in charge of organizing this. I might try, but this would probably end in failure, destruction, and E. bola.
I'm mostly posting this to see how many people would be up for participating.

I wanted to do it.
I really do like rap, but I was busy moving into college and stupid shit.
Then I just figured since no one else was doing it, I might as well not waster my time.
I'll do a verse if we're all going to collaborate or some shit.

It was you and a handful of other people. Like I said, not enough for a competition, but enough for a sick NWA-esque tune.

Sounds like an idea with a lot of potential, not sure how you would set it up though. I think everyone would have to record their own parts, and then have someone merge them all together.
Since I'm whiter than rice, I don't exactly feel obligated to rap, especially since I'm terrible at spitting. Though I suppose if I had a focused topic and maybe an idea to convey or story to tell I may be able to pull it off. I could write a whole song if given enough time.

I would be glad to contribute some stuff, don't expect me to rap it into a recording but I will think up some gangsta rhymes and what have you. Let's see how this progresses.

I'm down. I wrote a rap just yesterday for my friend for no reason. It's pretty awesome I guess.

I'm glad people are kinda onboard.
As for separate verses, I thought it would be pretty cool (but hard and confusing as fuck) for people to maybe have their own verse, but also trade lines, Beastie Boys style. Kinda like call backs or whatever they're called.

I'd be down for some lyrics, but recording is not for me.

I'm not sure that we could have people submit lyrics and not rap. Maybe if it's just the odd line or two, but entire verses from other people might get a bit weird.

Alright, if we're going to do this, we should actually try to accomplish something as opposed to talking about it. Write a verse and PM it to me. If you send a rap and it's decent, then cool.
What I don't want to happen (like last time) is people to sign up, maybe rush some written stuff out, and then not record or do anything productive.
So basically, write something, don't care what it's about, make it at least decent, and you're (probably) in.

By the way anyone want to help me run this thing? Or run this entirely?

Wait so it doesn't have to be about explosm?
I think we should have a central theme at least, so it's not just a bunch of nonsensical verses. Specifically, Explosm.
Also we should get the beat first, so people can write to the beat, and not have it clash by just putting any random beat to all the verses which will probably have different styles.

Alright, we'll definitely consider that.
EDIT: At Captainkewl.
To Dodger:
I was thinking for the "audition" verse or whatever (mostly just to show that people are at least a bit committed) could be about whatever, just to show they could string words together than made sense and sounded good. I agree that the final product should be about Explosm.
I hadn't even thought of the beat yet, since we're not really starting the actual song process. I guess we should get someone *cough* who can make awesome beats *cough* and also wants to be in the song *cough cough exetra cough*
I could make a beat, but I've only used Garageband on my sister's Macbook, and since she's gone now I'm not sure how I would do that.

Seems like an awesome idea, English ain't my first language though, so I can't write any lyrics.

Well cool.
I've been thinking of the logistics of recording different vocals on different continents.
Let's assume for this example that I'm finalizing the songs.
1. I send the beat to the different participants (or put it on MegaUpload, probably in mp3 format)
2. The download it, put it into Audacity or something, record their vocals over it. Then, they REMOVE THE MUSIC but keep their vocals on the track.
3. They convert their vocals to an mp3 (or something) and send it back to me.
4. I then take all of the different vocals, edit them together, put them back over the backing music.
This might not work, so people who have recording equipment (and are in different countries or something) should try this out to see if it works.

Welcome to Explosm, it's a laugh and a half.
Rob, Kris, Matt, and Dave make up the staff.
There's plenty to eat, just ask Rob.
He's the fattest he's been ever since he got the Job.
So sit down, relax, and take off your boots.
While I get down to the basic roots.
The frontpage is the best place to begin.
The flow of content just never runs thin.
and then I dropped the beat.

You should have everyone write lyrics and one person sing most of it, then others can add on. Also if we're struggling for material we've got a huge list of user names we can use.
