Since I went away to college, the wireless obviously sucks. I went and got an ethernet cord and all is well.

The problem is, whenever I want to plug the cord into my computer, I have to disable and re-enable the thingy from the device manager for it to realize I plugged a cord into it. If I don't disable and re-enable, it just stays connected to the shitty wireless.

The problem isn't urgent, since I can get it to work, but it is quite annoying and persistant.

How can I get it to realize I plugged something in without having to use the device manager?

I am using Vista.

Just turn off the wireless? Most laptops have a button or switch somewhere, or you can just press windows key+x and click 'turn wireless off'.

That isn't the problem. I tried doing that, but it still doesn't realize I plugged anything in.

Tried that first, no luck.

Are you paying for wireless at the college?

It's part of the tuition price?
