So lately I've been searching for some new music to listen to, and Beck has caught my interest more than once. I'm sure at least one of you is a fan, so what I'm asking is what would you recommend to me for a first listen? What are your favorite songs? Favorite albums?

Also just general Beck discussion of course, I just dont really have any input on him yet.

EDIT: disregard anything I said about Jeff Beck

Wait, are you talking about Beck or Jeff Beck? Those are two totally different guys who make pretty different music as far as I know.

He said Jeff Beck. I'm sort of a fan, I haven't really listened to many of his albums. His earlier sound is different than his later sound I think. Anyways, the albums always getting mentioned are Blow By Blow, Wired, and There and Back.

Also check this video out. It's what got me to check him out in the first place. Amazing bass.

If you're talking about Beck, check out Where it's at and the album that it is on, I can't think of it off the top of my head right now.

I'll be honest, I did think they were the same dude, and I was kind of confused seeing both at a music store. I guess that was another reason I made this thread. Im almost positive the one I'm interested in is Beck. I feel like kind of a dumbass now.

Jeff Beck is from Yardbirds fame along with Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton.

Beck is..that guy from the 90's.

Not related by the way.

Yeah I knew Jeff Beck was from the Yardbirds, but I just assumed that he went under Beck or whatever, and having never seen pictures of either I just kept that assumption.

Alright, I can tell you some stuff about Beck. He's one of my favorites, been listening to him since middle school.
As far as recommendations, it depends on what you're looking for. He has a few different styles.
He's got older stuff that's more lo-fi, and some of it almost...western in a weird way with all his nonsensical lyrics. That would be stuff like One Foot in the Grave, Mellow Gold, and to an extent Odelay. Oh and Stereopathetic Soulmanure, but I wouldn't really suggest that one unless you just want to get your hands on all his stuff.
Then there's stuff that's more fun and often with more of an electronic sound to it. That comes up a lot on Odelay, as well as Midnite Vultures, Guero and The Information.
Finally, there's what I consider his sadder stuff. Sea Change, Mutations, and Modern Guilt.
Personally, I like Odelay a lot as well as Sea Change and Modern Guilt. But really it's all pretty good just depending on the flavor you want.

Odelay is usually considered his best album. I like Mellow Gold as well, and Sea Change is well regarded, but it's a lot more serious than Odelay or MG.
