View Full Version : My sound is gone. Sigh.
My speakers are working. My computer sound drivers are updated. The volume is not muted through the keyboard, or through the computer itself, and yes, it's turn up and on. I can't figure out how to fix it. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Did you reboot the computer to see if it came back? Is it a laptop?
My laptop is retarded, and for some reason if I listened to anything in any program (youtube/vlc/winamp/whatever) and left it up in the background, no other sound would play in new windows until I close that last one.
Also, sometimes it just shits out and I have just have to reboot.

I had a similar problem, you might need to go into the control panel, go to sound and devices. From there go to 'manage audio devices', right click on your speakers or headphones and go to properties on the drop down menu. Form there, go to the advanced tab and un-check the box next to 'allow applications to take exclusive control of this device'. Once you've done that it should all be fine and dandy.

I love you.
Thank totally worked... and this wasn't even my topic.
The sound isn't working in any programs that I run. It's a desktop, not a laptop. When I go to my sound properties through the control panel, I get the following error message:
Device Status: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
This only appears under the microsoft kernel wave audio mixer. All the other devices I have say they are working. Driver says it's updated already, and I can't roll back because no driver files have been backed up for it. This is terrible.
EDIT: I uninstalled my driver, then downloaded it again from the manufacturers website. It works again! I don't know why I didn't just do that in the first place.
