View Full Version : Can you whistle?
Infammo

I've never been able to. I've tried every technique there is, and have accepted that I'm just not biologically suited for high pitched noises.
What about you guys? Does anyone have an unusual amount of control over their tone and pitch? Its annoying as hell to hear people try to whistle tunes and suck at it.

You're just a noob, everyone but you whistles! (I don't know anyone who doesn't... Except you, n00b!)

I can whistle pretty well, can do tunes and everything.
A lot of people who play flute and stuff can't though.

I can whistle in tune, but I whistle by sucking air in, rather than blowing air out. Everyone else I know whistles out, but I can't at all.
Also, I think pitch control in whistle is related to pitch control in singing, y'know? I don't think tone deaf singers can whistle in tune, and vice versa.

Yes, yes I can. I also do this thing where I whistle and hum at the same time combing the two to make a strange wacky noise that irritates many a person.

Not only can I whistle but I can also make a noise that is exact to a leaky faucet, with my mouth of course.

I can do both, by sucking air in and by blowing out. But I can't whistle loud. Which clearly sucks, because whistling tunes isn't half as annoying as whistling loud.
I can whistle like a thistle. :heya:
I can whistle in tune, but I've always wanted to do those loud whistles with fingers-in-mouth sorta thing, but I can't.

So can I. I can whistle breathing in, breathing out, rolling my tongue backwards to make a stupidly loud whistle and through my teeth. im whistling through my teeth as we speak

I can whistle tunes and sound like birds, Inhaling or exhaling style
Im learning the really loud one where you stick your fingers in your mouth and blow.

I remember watching a porno with this girl whistling through her ass. If you don't understand, just think about it.

I'm really good at whistling. I can whistle with pitch and do a really loud wolf whistle.
If you want to see a REALLY good whistler, look up this artist named Andrew Bird. He whistles like a God in some of his songs.

I can whistle but I whistle in.
Yeah, I can whistle really well inhaling and exhaling. But I just can't make that really high pitch one where you use your fingers. :(

I can whistle okay. Sometimes for some reason I get really low but usually I can whistle. Just not really loud.
I whistle loudly and out of tune.

I can whistle, but it's very airy and is only one note. I'm nearly as whistle-disabled as Infammo.

Impressive. Whistling AND speaking at the same time.
I can whistle, loudly and out of tune, and I can also do the fingers-in-the-mouth whistle, which is handy for calling my dog.
I can, but I have trouble staying in tune.

I can whistle perfectly in tune, but I can't wolf-whistle (fingers in mouth & loud).
But on a sort-of related note - I can't click my fingers.

I got my start whistling in, now I whistle out better than in and can hold a bit of a tune, not that I ever bother to. Can't whistle through the teeth or fingers though.
InTransit - do you mean snap your fingers or do that really annoying thing where you flick your wrist and slap one finger against the other?

I mean snap my fingers. I have retarded-shaped thumbs and it doesn't work.

I learned how to do that when it was an actual fad at school. And through much practice, of course.
I can whistle in and out, but I can't do the thing where you put your fingers in your mouth and make that really high-pitched whistle. I'd like to learn that. Oh, and I can do the thing where you cup your hands together over your mouth and whistle by blowing air across a hole in your hands, not through pursed lips. Then you can modify the pitch by adjusting how open your hands are.

I can whistle normally, through my teeth, through my fingers (wolf whistling) and through my hands.
I wanna learn how to whistle through my nose on cue. It's sexy.

I can't whistle. I've dedicated countless hours to trying to, but I just can't. I think it may be because I used to have braces - I have no idea what impact braces would have on whistling, but I have a few friends that used to have braces and can't whistle either.
Or, maybe I'm just a shitty human being.

I learned how to whistle like 3 months ago. I still suck at it, but I'm getting better. I want to learn how to do the really high pitched loud whistle through my fingers, but that always fails for me.
Remember that story about the boy who sucked on a lemon, and he couldn't whistle. Or something.
I forget what the story is titled.
But that story is about you Infammo.
You freak.
I suck at whistling.

I adore whistling! I taught a few of my friends how to whistle, and I whistle to lots of different things. If you practice enough you can whistle some pretty cool shit. I know someone who does whistles like a bird. It's sweet.

I still wish I could do the super loud whistle with my fingers in my mouth, though.

I can whistle MOST of the time. Sometimes I can't, it's really wierd. And I can't do the ear-piercing finger whistle, either. I wish I could, I've tried and it just doesn't work.

I can only whistle while sucking in, no outward whistle for me.
It's pretty embarrassing to be honest.

I rock at whistling if I do say so myself. I always whistle along to the sirens of police cars and ambulances when they go past. My friends probably hate me.
Also my hands are weird, I can count up to 31 on one hand.

Every now and then I can manage to whistle when inhaling, only sometimes though. It is really quite pathetic that I usually cannot whistle. I really want to learn how to do the really loud finger/mouth one though, that is how we get our dogs to come back to the house because we live in the middle of the woods, so it would be convenient to have that ability. Plus, it would just be cool.
But I can snap my fingers, though. At least i don't totally suck at life.

I can whistle both in and out but I think it is the most annoying sound. I have a friend who can't whistle at all. It's hilarious watching her try.
Honestly, I can't whistle songs or shit, but, I can whistle. Like, I can make an audible sound when I try to, but, if I try to whistle a tune, it just comes out all butchered and sounds bad. I only learned how to recently, though, so...

I can whistle in and out with my lips, and can also whistle (out only) through my teeth, which extends the upper end of my range by about a fifth. I'm decent at whistling a tune; I'm about as good at it as I am at singing, which is to say competent but unremarkable.
I do a pretty good rendition of the theme from The Andy Griffith Show. I've found that it's a horrendously contagious song. When I was in the Navy, I would whistle it whenever I walked past someone on watch. Then I'd come by an hour later, and he'd still be whistling it. Or there would be someone else on watch who was whistling it because he heard the first guy. A buddy of mine said he started a streak that went through two changes of the watch, but I always suspected that he was full of shit.
I can do some rudimentary Tuvan throat singing. I can get at least three notes at the same time out of my throat (a first, a fifth and the octave below), but I have a very narrow range. I can get from a D to an F# on a good day. Anyway, I've been trying to add whistling to it, but so far I've had only limited success. I don't invest a lot of time in it, though, as it is not exactly a highly marketable skill. I only got as good at it as I have because some motherfucker stole the stereo out of my car at a time when I had an hour and a half commute.

All of you can whistle if you try hard enough.
I couldn't whistle. I was sure it is a biological thing, yet I never gave up. I tried all the time, tried to whistle with my music, just make the whistling sound somehow, and after several months of continious practice I finally did it. Now I can whistle pretty good. I can whistle the Imperial March of Star Wars and Funeral march of Chopin, and also some other tunes. I actually whistle so much that I sometimes annoy people.

I can whistle in and out very loudly, but I can't do the finger whistle.
Not that I really need to. I don't own a Sheepdog and I don't whistle at women on the street.
I can hold a whistle note for a very long time though, and do a near constant whistle while switched from in and out whistling.

Uhm, well, I started to whistle when I was younger but I could never whistle blowing air out of my mouth. In grade 8, I finally learned and I was so ecstatic that I almost forgot how I did it. I don't know why but I seem to learn most things backward. Skipping being one example.

I attempt to whistle on a daily basis and still can't. I have a retarded mouth.
I've always been able to whistle out very well, and whistle songs and such, but not whistle in. I kept trying while reading this and I finally got it! It's just the one note and it's not very loud, but it makes me happy. Though I started to feel a bit light-headed after a while.
I've never been able to snap. People always make fun of me, and try to teach me, but I just can't. It sounds like I'm hitting two fish together.
