I know Toon Link fucked me in the ass 10x over. Every other character I could beat on my first try, I could only beat him with Bowser since he didn't go flying off the screen at Mach 10 (I had already used 4 other characters.)

Also to the guy who said King Dedede sucked, what? He's my best character, haven't lost a match as him yet.

I beat all hidden characters on my first try... Maybe you guys just suck.

Although, I find I'm good with Link, Toon Link, Snake, Pokemon Trainer and Fox. Me and CreamScreamer had 3 rounds online which was alot of fun. I won all of our matches, but they were pretty close. I think each time we were down to 1 life each.

I agree with every thing. Dedede is a tank. And I only beat Toon Link with Bowser. Every other character I used, I was ass raped.e

I played it yesterday at Gamestop and I love it! It's great. At first it took a little bit to get used to with the nunchuk and Wii Remote, but after a bit of fumbling around, you're pretty much set to go, though I'm sure I would have been a lot better with the classic and/or Gamecube controller.

As far as I could tell, the controls were responsive, and though not HD, the graphics were good, Mario's overalls looked of blue-jean material. But the game isn't about the graphics. The level design is also great, I really loved Pitt's level and how the ground broke apart, I thought, "Wow, thats really neat."

Also, the Smash attack's pretty cool, though I only got to see Mario's -- which I had seen in pictures and stuff before --, it was neat that you triggered/used it yourself. I thought once you got the smash ball, after a few seconds it was to charge up, then do its thing, but I was wrong.

Here's my thought on classic mode this time around: i'm tired of Master Hand. He's been in the past two, and he's just a bit...old. I mean, I understand teh significance in a sense, but he still does the same shit as he did in the first one. The only difference is he looks better. I remember in Melee, when I was fighting MH and Crazy Hand came out, I was like, "HOLY FUCK". But alas, its good and whatnot, maybe since I had some dude standing to my left staring at me the whole time made it less enjoyable.

But I give it a 5/5, or 10/10. Whatever your choice.

My 2 cents on the game: (like a review of sorts):

Subspace Emissary: As far as side scrollers go, it is pretty mediocre. Instead of strategically putting enemies and platforms, they just throw a bunch of shit at you and hope you kill it all. It sort of makes sense because instead of health or die in 1-2 hits, you have a percent bar where you can take A LOT of hits. Though this can be a fault when you are bouncing along a closed room not able to land a hit, or when you get blasted far to the left or right of the level, but still alive, however the camera needs to catch up to you so you can see yourself fight. It's long, and usually pretty boring.

With the exception of the cut scenes(which are beautiful and completely awesome to watch, especially if you enjoy Nintendo), this mode is totally skippable, unless you don't want to do 500 vs matches to get all the secret characters.

Classic Mode: Same as ever. It is a little bit worse than the previous game's classic mode because some times you'll be facing the same characters on the same levels(such as the dk and diddy kong fight) and there are only two break the targets, which are exactly the same (as opposed to Melee's where each break the target catered to a character's abilities) (And only two in Classic Mode, there are actually five separate levels of break the target in total)

Extras:
Trophies: Trophies are better than ever this time around, with even more to collect and an even better way to collect them.

Stickers: Retarded and pointless. The only reason anyone would collect them would be to power up your character in SSE, and even that barely does shit. They are boring to look at, and boring to arrange.

Coin Launcher: A more unique and definatley less boring way to collect trophies than just the lottery, and it's a good thing that you get dozens of coins each time you complete something because you will need them. At any time you can usually have over 200 coins to go to this machine, and it feels like someone of an accomplishment once you get a trophy. Though it really sucks if you miss one.

Characters: Not much to say about the levels, but the characters are a hot topic. The new ones are great, even the really crappy ones, (even the 3-clone group of fox falco and wolf) Though some of the characters are really un-balanced in some of their attacks, specifically their Up+B ones. Some characters just go flying in the air to have a huge advantage in saving themselves from death, while others have that grab move where you need to get a ledge perfectly to save yourself. While others (such as diddy kong) Have ones where you have to have perfect control and precision in your timing to boost up his flying ability. Then some characters are just painfully slow, one coming to mind in King Dedede

Anyway that was my mini review of sorts.

Seriously, I don't know anyone who's gonna buy this game and I'm on a games dev course. It seems to just be people on the internet.

My roommate is in a game dev program, and on Wed. someone brought in a Wii and they played Brawl the whole day. So like most things in life it still boils down to personal tastes.

Fuck. I was playing Brawl with a friend yesterday. He was using a wired controller. We left the room for a second. When we came back, I decided to jump over the wire to get over to my controller. My friend lifts up the controller at the same exact moment that I go to jump over it's wire, and I trip over it. My Wii falls down. The screen reads "Cannot read game disk." I pull out the disk. It has scratches all over the edges. Fuck.

That blows. Good thing I don't use wired controllers. :fmita:
That happened to me once, though. I tried to do the "Make Yoshi Swallow the Two Characters" event, and it said it couldn't read the disc, I panicked, but I reset my Wii, and haven't gotten another error, yet.

This is sort of a de-rail but as long as we're on the subject of game discs breaking a few days after getting a game....

Long story short, it took me several months to actually get to play Guitar Hero 3(First I had to wait until Christmas, then I get the wrong version of GH3, then my Xbox breaks) So about two days after playing it I lift up the Xbox to check something when I turned the system off. It turns out that the game disc was still spinning and got really deep scratches in them. It really sucked.

Anyway back to SSBB. Online is fun and all but for me it's really laggy and I don't get random players to play with too often. For friends I really wish you didn't need both yours and your friends friend code typed in, and someone can just accept your request.

Yeah. None of them seem any weaker or better than the others. All the new characters are really good(Olimar takes some practice to be good at 'em though) but none of them are like Pichu. The only character that is a little different is Fox, and Wolf beats 'em anyways.

Obviously the best character is not any other character except the one I play and that's what makes it the best character.
Can we stop with this now?

But after playing with Wolf, he seems like the right kind of "clone." He has a similar move set, but at least they're visually or performance-related-ly changed that he can be called a definite seperate character. Unlike characters like Falco or Toon Link.
gasp, I insulted the best character ever!

Wow, after playing this character for days and completely destroying people with him, I must say absolutely without a doubt in my mind, Mr. Game & Watch is the best character in the game. Without question, he is now my main. He got insanely buffed since melee, and let me say why I believe he is the best.

His only weakness is that he is light weight, but his strengths totally destroy that aspect. He can easily combo into KO moves, his down smash is just as spammable as Peach's down smash from melee plus it is an incredibly good KO move, he can attack out of his upward special (which goes into his aerial KO attacks), he has pretty damn good priority with almost all his attacks, he actually has pretty good defensive moves this time around, and he's fast.

Now to be more specific with his defense, I'll explain why he has such an advantage over Toon Link, or any other characters with good aerial play. His up air attack is amazing, for it pushes people into the air. Now that may not seem special at first, but when you consider that Brawl is more of an aerial fighting game, this move becomes more important. So if Toon Link is to do his down aerial attack, Mr. Game & Watch can do his upward aerial and float Toon Link up (and over slightly) which really screws with people. This seems to work with any downward aerial that spikes to the ground. It's this plus his equal defense to others that completely destroy the lightweight issue.

It's even surprising to me that I singled out one character as the best, usually I just think there's always a counter to everything; but at minimum Mr. Game & Watch is top tier and is just an insane powerhouse. I urge you people to play him so you can see his hidden awesome. I'm sure those who do try him will see that he has at least in the top three characters.

Not true. I play as Sonic and Snake as well as Toon Link and Lucas (my top 4 characters). And I have to say Sonic sucks unless you know how to use him really well, and Snake is good on occasion, but the top two are TL and Lucas, but Lucas definatley has more power.

Hey look, a never ending source for stages. (http://supersmashbros.ign.com/stages/)

Personally, I found the stage editor to be really restricting. They needed more bonus stage packs, along with different terrain, background options, destructible terrain and hazards.

But as far as the game goes, both single player and multi, fucking win. Beat SSE and Classic on intense. Working on event mode and boss mode. Marth still owns all others in the ass, extra hard. Online play blows though. And if they were going to clone characters, they should have cloned some new characters.

This game is the reason I got a Wii in the first place, finally paid off.

I haven't had the chance for online play yet - so I can't really comment on that part, but everything else is quite excellent. Also, I haven't had a chance to do multiplayer events/modes, so I don't know much about them.

On day one I sat down and beat SSE and got all the characters (ironically, I ended up getting Jigglypuff last), and after that I started going through all the challenges.

I find that even though the target smashes are the same for all characters, they're still quite fun, and a few are quite challenging. I know I had a hell of a time beating #4's challenge time. Home run contest was made way easier as well - and now you can get killer distances without using just Yoshi. Boss battles is frickin' difficult, but PT's Charizard using rock smash is amazing against them. The alloys are way tougher than wire frames, especially - which is good and bad, I suppose.

SSE wasn't all that bad. I found it was a just a Kirby adventure clone, though. I liked having to use most characters and I found it gave me a good idea of some strengths and weaknesses of some of them. I've got 99% in it, and it's going to be hell finding the goldboxes I need to get in the Great Maze level.

As for characters, I'm quite happy with all of them. I'm surprised to find myself maining Sonic (as I'd told myself I wouldn't), but not surprised to find myself hating Snake (I will NEVER use him in a battle - except for 'defeat this with all characters' challenges). He's just so clunky. Among my favourites are Olimar, ZSS (waaaaaaay better than PSS), Pokemon Trainer, and Wolf. Among my least favourite are SNAKE, SNAKE, SNAKE, SNAKE, and regular Samus. I like that Mewtwo is gone, even though Lucario is 'meh.'

I was a little disappointed by the difficulty of the events, even on hard mode. It seemed that some - though original in concept - were just stupidly easy; take the Growing Pikmin event, for example.

I never really realized until you mentioned it, but that's a bit of an inconvenience. I always play with a GC controller.

I suppose it's not really a big deal, but it'd be kind of nice to just let the Wiimote collect dust and use only the GC controller. Unless you're a freak who actually uses the Wiimote. :ahe: And god forbid the Nunchuk, too!

Hey, I use the Wiimote and the Nunchuk. It's actually a lot easier, but I'm always shaking the remote liking I'm playing Super Mario Galaxy, thinking I'll attack.

Sorry for the late reply to this, but I eventually felt compelled to explain why this statement needs to be checked. Pit is actually terrible against Game & Watch because three buckets of Pit's arrows can pretty much instantly kill Pit. Also, Game & Watch has higher priority attacks against both Pit and Metaknight (except for Metaknight's neutral and over special that online players just love to spam). And as much as I wish I could say that the players have been evened out, tiers are starting to comes forth in Brawl (not as drastic as Melee, but there nonetheless). Yeah, the player can make a huge difference, but characters do have their metagame thing...

In other news, if you add my friend code, and I add yours; then get online more often. I want to see if my G&W play holds up against more people rather than the random losers on basic brawl who only play Metaknight, Pit, Wolf, Toon Link, and Sonic.

I have agree with you there, but I never tried the GC controller so I can't say anything about that. The Wiimote/nunchuck is actually a great design and has a great feel, and I have no clue why people are bashing it. The classic controller is ok, but it just feels out of order. It's very...stale. That's the only word I can use to describe it. I hate playing the masterpieces with it. Then the wiimote by itself just fucking sucks. I don't know if its just me, but I still can't get used to the "1" and "2" buttons. They were good on the NES but this is a new age of gamers, people want A and B. I still can't get over why they made start and select + and -. Just keep it the same! But yeah, what's the deal with playing with a D-pad for smash brothers? The Wiimote by itself shouldn't even be an option.

Zero Suit Samus however is the new Sheik. You hold a button before the fight (depending on the controller you are using), she's fast, and is beyond cheap; making her my second choice for character, obviously.

Whilst having fun in online brawl (because that's what it's about. It's not ALWAYS a competition guys ) I started duking it out with Ice Climbers. Now these guys know how to reep benefits in group fights. Practically all their attacks are smashes and they have excellent defenses all around. I even managed to score 7 kills in one round, (truth be told two of those were from the hammer). Still, I've managed around 3 to 5 kills almost every game. For group brawling they make a powerful duo.

Just playing around with the random chooser a lot of the characters are in fact well balanced, more so than I thought, and a lot of them are actually playable competitively (as opposed to Melee)

I don't know, this game wasn't as epic as I thought it would be. Flame me or not, it's too alike from the melee, its almost as if it were an expansion pack like WoW or something.

But N64 is still the winner for me. The down A meteor smashes, fast play, and the new-ness (meaning back in the day, when it first came out nothing was alike from it, I poured my soul in this game) is still better. All the stages were amazing, characters were amazing, graphics were sharp, GRABS WERE AWESOME, controller rocked, good amount of characters, waaaaaay better smash moves (captain falcons side A smash, where he shouts out "AAAANNNNSSSS" Ness's yo-yo's, Luigi and Mario's fists), it was all-rounded fucking amazing.

The original may be the most skill based, but the same can be said for any of the simplest versions of a series.
Sure Brawl isn't as big of a jump as Melee was, but it's also better in every way. When I'm playing with friends what is going to be more fun? Hectic Brawl or simple original?

Yeah, your right. But I still do like the original stages 1000x better though. Just sad that they changed the style so much.

And whats with the nerfing? Captain Falcon's knees have pillows on them now...

And I'm not saying I was THIS good, but you seriously, GOTTA love the meteor smashes...every character had them and they added excitement to the game, trying to dodge enmies in air, etc.

I loved doing that. For some reason it's hard to get JP exactly in the middle during the bridge in the TP level, but once you do and get her to stay big it freakin rocks. What I really wanted was to be able to pause the game and just see the entire level/giant jigglypuff.

Seriously there were NO galaxy referrals. How retarded is that!? They just shun down on one of the wii's best selling games? Totally lame.

Captain falcon has been in the game for 3 fucking times, and yet he gets no new friend. Ness got a friend, and Star fox, etc. And all those old school guys were totally unnecessary. I mean, Pit and R.O.B were only in 2 real games...That sucked balls.

They should have added black bull, or Pico for Captain Falcon.

Oh and another thing. GANONDORF? What the FUCK? He has the same exact attacks, but they look different? big whoop. I thought Sakurai said there was going to be no more copies, but I guess not.

Possibly, but serious, they could have been one smash attack or A or B attack that involves some kind of galaxy move. I mean, his normal side A, or possible side B could have been his spinny move, that deflects attacks so it doesn't completely take our a Mario reflector move. See? Thats awesome. I mean come on now. I think Brawl was too far in development for a Galaxy something, besides Rosalina as an Early AT. I think Nintendo is focusing a lot more on the Nostalgic things more than the Nintendo of now, which is a bit of bull shit, seeing as they include Sonic's latest game as Sonic and the Secret Rings, when we all know it was in fact Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.

She was really famous in Japan when they brought out the 64 version and they haven't really taken out any of the not completely crap characters

Jigglypuff is an incredibly powerful character if you can get the hang of her. She can KO most characters just at 70% and the heaviest at 85% with abilities like Rest or Roll, which have a massive backfire if you miss. She's basically high risk for high output, like Lucario.

I didn't read anything else in this thread.
I recently received Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and I would like to tell you my thoughts on the matter.

I found, almost immediately, that the graphics in most aspects of the game are greatly improved from the first SSB (I haven't played Melee), but these improvements aren't completely for the better. I notice a small thing, which doesn't really matter, but it annoys me. The size of Samus' charge shot seems to have decreased. Part of the fun of Samus in the first SSB was, to me, that you could fire a huge ball of energy at a foe, which would look really cool and all. I think with the improvements on graphics, they have made the ball look smaller, when really it is pretty much the same size. There are rings around the center ball, making the rings the same size, but those rings are difficult to see.

Other than that small thing, there are not a lot of things that are bad about the game. I do find, however, that with all the upgrades -- more levels, more power moves, more characters, new modes -- they have taken away from the simplicity of the game. In the first game, I liked how you would be able to just flick it on, play a quick game, and it would still be fun after hours of playing. I don't seem to feel that same excitement in Brawl. It just doesn't seem to be there.

Apart from those two aspects, I find that the rest of the game is extremely fun, and that anyone who doesn't have it should go out and buy it.

A similar situation happened to me, except it ended up Bowser, Lucas, Lucas, Lucas. I got into the most bullshit match yesterday, though. I was playing on New Pork City, for some gay reason, online as Ganondorf, against Diddy Kong, Pit, and Bowser. And the fuckers didn't even attempt to land a hit on me. They just kept bouncing along the stage doing there annoying ass taunts, and the Bowser player than later thought it would be cool if he started suiciding me. And then there was a sudden death between me and the Diddy Kong player (I beat Bowser once and gimped Pit) he still did the fucking taunt that made Diddy clap. And as soon as I'm about to connect Ganon's powerful dash attack, a fucking bomb-omb came out of nowhere and landed on me. Seriously, screw those bomb-ombs that spawn in Sudden Death.

Iys good to see that although the Starfox characters have similar attacks they all semm to play differently.

Wolf is great addition because his attacks do have more power to them which negates the 4 player problems the other 2 have with getting the KOs.

Too many times have i fought another character up to the hundreds and them some noob using Falcon comes along and boots him away.

I never really played Melee so Marth was new to me and the other two seem to just play well.

Am I crazy or is Diddy insanely powerful? I press A a few times and the other guy is on 90% or something, it's strange

I used Sheik in melee, and I'm using her in the brawl tournament too... But she's just nowhere near as good as she was in Melee... Which makes me sad.

Also, Snake wins purely for his Side + B homing missile when the enemy is trying to recover.

Is it just me or does all of Sonic's B moves except his Up+B involve him going into all ball and flying a your opponent and if your on a small stage falling off it.

And Olimar is great. I only just got to fighting as him. All that stuff about him being hard to play because of the pikmin is bull. Getting more of thhem is easy as pie. But even when you don't have them his attacks are still pretty good.

Olimar can kick serious ass.

You know his down-special? The seemingly useless one one with the rainbow whistle that lines up his Pikmin?

It gives him fucking invincibility frames.

It's a bit hard to time it right, but you have a fairly generous amount of frames to do it. You'll still take damage, but you won't go anywhere.

B is a homing attack and is pretty useful at edge guarding

B+side is excellent for covering horizontal distance quickly

B+down is annoying because you have to keep bashing B while you do it, but it's EXTREMELY fast. You can hit someone on the other edge of a stage (provided it's a homogenously flat stage, which isn't that uncommon); the only downside is that you can dangerously kill yourself on levels that have no defined boundaries (eg most of Delfino Plaza, Castle Siege, Game & Watch Level)

You're right though, they are all pretty similar. You just have to know when to use which one really, or else you'll end up button mashing, getting yourself in the fray and ultimately fucking yourself up. I've been playing Sonic for a couple of days intensely, though, and each one has their relative merits, although I'd say B is the weakest he has of the four. (On a side note: B+up is fucking incredible)

Sonic, King Dedede and Peach are so fun to play with (I played Peach intensely in SSBM though so I kind of stopped using her)

Howdy!

SSBB is awesome. I generally use either Sonic or Samus (Zero Suit or Regular.) It's fun to piss people off by being Samus most of the match, and then switch in to ZSS to throw off their tactics. Heh.

Oh, and Link is pretty sweet, too.

I'm disappointed in Marth, this time around. He was my absolute favorite character on the last game. Now, they made it harder to Meteor Smash, his side-B move doesn't help him recover anymore, and ANYONE can use dancing blades because they took out the timing part of it. I used to be able to beat the crap outta my friends 'cuz I was the only one who could use that attack.

Oh, well. I do like his new B attack, however.

Wow. That was a rather rambling post. Oh well.

Why do people still like this game? It got boring a long while ago. Play some normal games on Xbox 360. Instead of this crap, look for Gears of War 2, or play Cod4 now.

Reason: Comparing games that are in completely different genre's is pretty lame.

Reason: I'm extending your ban for threadshitting. Discussing the negative aspects of a game is fine, but simply calling it "boring crap" is not discussion.

Bumping this because there's a program you can use to create stages on your PC. I assume you need an SD card to transfer them to your Wii, but it's probably a heck of a lot easier than using Brawl's built-in editor.
