What the hell is wrong with local commercials? Is there some law saying they have to be complete failures? There are just a few examples above. And to "The Credit Pimp" - :salute:

Nothing beats car dealership commercials in Texas. Each one has at least one woman with frizzy hair, jeans up to her belly button, wearing a cowboy hat and saying "Y'ALL COME ON DOWN TO BILLY JOE FORD"

All of them here are so stupid. They're horrible quality and have the WORST actors. You can tell they're local the second it comes on.

Here we get all the local stores like LA Tees. The commercial is filled with two ugly kids trying on clothes for the whole comercial, and posing like they are the greatest things ever. Then at the end its like LA Tees, thats right.

Thats basically the only local commercial we have.

It's like they buy a camcorder, take some random employees and look up a joke on google to use in their commercial. They're always yelling too..

Random employees with no acting talent whatsoever. Seriously, they should hire professionals. Eagle man is a perfect example, "Do you have insurance on this car?"....................Long pause.........................."No!"

Haha... there was this one that always bugged me so much because the acting was terrible, and the script was so cheezy. Basically is was for a furniture store (they ALWAYS have the worst, yeah?) and there was this lady who they probably didn't pay very much talking about how to tell real leather from fake leather. And she's like: "And if it doesn't stretch a little, then you've been BAMBOOZLED."

Boy, glad I wasn't bamboozled!

I didn't think about it, but he did lay an egg... with savings!

Quick question, has anyone else seen these "1-800-I-DON'T-KNOW" commercials where you call this number for questions for just about anything? Looks like a local ad for our area, but I just want to confirm this.

I have a feeling I've seen something similar a long time ago, but recently, no I haven't. I'd imagine something like that would be somewhat local though...

I hate local commercials. Mostly because I'm a local photographer and videographer; in other words, I'm the professional they should hire to make these things good. I hate seeing the low quality they end up with, and would almost do it just to help. Unfortunately the only people we've worked on wouldn't pay the broadcasting fees. Seriously, though, it's amazing how much better we can do at everything, especially these. People who make public access crap and local commercials don't seem to think about it, though; they figure they have a little consumer camera, just point it and it should do all the work for cheap.

Oh my god that was complete shit. Also, don't you think its odd that the boss is helping him out when Bob was telling him to take the job and shove it? Or that he has the book and tape sitting on his desk, and a pre-planned speech about being your own boss ready?

It did indeed air...for a month. Some old ladies complained about it, and it was replaced with two different, more standard ads. I sh!t you not.

Not only that, but it seems like this one Kia dealer around here(I'm in Dallas) is just throwing random stuff into their commercials. Literally. It will be a car commercial, then some sheep crossing a river or something like that, then back to the dealer guy.

Memphis, TN has the absolute WORST local commercials in existence.

You know how people tend to shy away from using stereotypes when they're trying to sell you something? Well, Memphis local auto commercials certainly don't!

Local ads here have just discovered silence. If they buy a 30 second spot without sound it is cheaper, and people actually look because they think the TV has gone dead.

We also have on ad where the employees of a butcher shop do the macarena with an animated cow. I can't remember exactly how they've changed all the lyrics, but "hey, macarena" is now "hey, Latrobe st Mega Meats".

Glurf
08-20-2007, 10:18 AM

Why are there a bunch of angry black guys in the background of the second one?
And for the butcher macarena. Do you have a link? I think I would be quite amused by that.

There's a particular one around here for a car dealership that runs now that its football season, which tosses in any kind of football reference in relation to car prices and shows some little 3 year old girl in a Steelers jersey.

we'll blitz the competition and give you a touchdown on the lowest priced vehicles in the area!!! :ahe:

Although this thread is two years old, that also gives me two years more experience. It's incredible how many business owners don't think they need any professionalism in their advertising, especially around here. They don't realize that what you say really does have an impact, especially a negative one if you do it wrong. Food shots especially. They look at their own commercial and see it as all flowers and happiness, rather than the shit it is, and don't get why I would think my years of experience/training and equipment choices could ever be better. It really shouldn't be a tough sell, but is. The people who kind of get it tend to go for the free services they get with the airtime, since it feels like they're getting something of value, but really I'd rather see business owners shoot one take of shit and not even review it before sending it in than most of what they churn out. There is a huge position for good marketing, especially with modern lifestyle and technology changes, but most people choose to be totally oblivious.

Yeah I see some ads and it just astounds me how shitty they are.
It isn't that hard to think of a decent commercial, there isn't any reason as a business owner to waste your money on a boring, generic ad that catches nobodys attention.

There's a car dealership ad, where for some unknown reason, it has a football theme (Australian football) it pisses me off because at the end of the ad, he kicks the football out of the shot, which if you follow the angle, goes directly onto the highway. Plus the guy looks like a douche.

I can't find videos but anyone living in the Atlanta area that watches Daytime TV has seen the large array of personal injury lawyer commercials. The best of the worse being the TV Commercials for Perry Ellis. In this one, this guy is driving down the street, and for some reason swerves and hits a power pole. *cue the shitty CGI* The crappy-unrealistic power pole falls in someone's back yard while they are barbequeing. *cue horrible fake screams* The power pole hits the grill, also rendered in ultra shitty CGI. The propane tank "explodes" and goes flying making that old-timey bullet-richochet noise. Cut scene to one of the people that were in the backyard, running across the sidewalk to get away, and causing a guy on a bicycle, (who was green-screened into the shot, and has some bright yellow light shining on him that makes it quite obvious) wobbles and falls over with a comedic "whoah oh oh oh!".

This guy in town has the creepiest car commercials. They all center around the idea that his company is always with you when you buy from him. There's this one where a woman is having a child and he delivers her baby. She's all happy and then she's like, "who are you?" "I'm Larry Foss."
