Who would read the "starting out" thread without coercion Ô.o? The most important thing for art is feedback, how should any beginners get better without it?
I mean, some people posting comics here were good from the beginning, but I've seen enough getting better over time. Even Ox admitted his first ones were bad (but not as bad as MOST first ones, mind ;) ) - where would we be if he had started out in "the ghetto for the ones who can't draw" :wail:?
It also would take away the fun of crushing young, innocent but plainly bad would-be-artist's dreams with cruel, but true comments!

The problem with this thread is that the new explosmers don't really get any preasure over them to actually take about 30 minutes to finnish a comic, they just think of something stupid and make a suck arse comic out of it.

And the "starting out" thread would be rather good, imo. Because that would make the beginners understand that people don't want to see comics that look like they've been drawn by a 3 years old and the joke have been made by a 6 year old. And if the beginners actually want to evolve and get access to the more "exclusive" forum part, they can just take a look at other peoples work in the thread and understand how good you should be to get access.

And it wouldn't be fun if it was like "Only the best may be here", only as good to keep up with the avarage human capabilities. If we take Ox's first attempts, imo they should be more then acceptable, because you can see in a guy like that have potential to get better.

This is just ideas, that I think would make the forum a much more enjoyable place. Peace out.

claradruida, I like that. Bodies need working on, 'cept the fairies. That looks good. and the woman's talking should make sense. I get what you're trying to get at, but, in my opinion, she should be linking it together. But, overall, nice first post!

Slurpy, I just think there are too many qualities of beginners who make their first post in this thread with a comic. You have guys like MI or Tyler who can do really good ART, not only comics, have done this for years, and therefore just won't suck on this end of the spectrum automatically. They also have the benefit of talent, of just being able to make jokes that never fail to crack up 99% of the readers.
Then you have guys like you who has really good art, but jokes that may only appeal to about 50% of the readers (I DO like them, but have noticed that not all do). Some have absolutely decent art but jokes that are the opposite of funny.
Some few have sucky art and hilarious jokes; and some are just plainly bad.

I must admit, about 50% of the first-posters have both eyecancer art and brainvomit jokes, but there are many enough that have decent enough jokes and good enough art, or even both.

Now imagine a possible thread for Newbies. Some Mods (well, WHO?) would supervise it and determine for each single comic-poster equally if that one MAY post (comics or at all?) here or not, and they will have to re-evaluate for EACH NEW COMIC. That is another point against it, but I want to further stress my first:

Most will agree that if someone has neither good art nor a good joke, he just should not make comics - somewhere deep inside there has to be TALENT, after all. But, if one of those two requirements is met, the other one, in my opinion, can be trained. Now, you CAN train yourself by exercising, but most won't do this without motivation. Furthermore, it's far simpler for someone to improve if he gets honest advice.

But, when there is a thread where 90% or more of the comics just are NOT good at art AND joke, noone will read it but those poor Mods assigned to the task...and they will absolutely NOT feel inclined to provide help. So, there will be many a comicmaker with a future of GOOD comics, starting from the point of bad or "just decent" art OR jokes, who doesn't improve because of no feedback an constructive criticism, and this would just be a loss. It would dry out fan art.

We have basically two options: Get a Noobcamp which will just be a Noobghetto with almost no chance of "social elevation", resulting in this thread being "pure" of "unfunny elements" (and this IS supposed to be a Nazi anology), or leave it as it is, spare the Mods a lot of work and YES, be a bit flooded with shit, but keep up the chance to find a gem in all the mud, maybe flawed, but surely cuttable.

That's right, I won't advise against changing anything at all. It's no fun to be flooded with shit ;). I just say that it's better than what exactly you propose.

Another idea, which doesn't restrict the procress of learning how to be good - why not? It's just not that simple, and we always have to ask ourselfs: Do we really want to regulate EVERYTHING?

First off, I'd like to say that I spend most of my time of GitP forums, so: FUCK!

Now to critiquing:
bison: Everyone's already said it, but: "Fuck you."
Art: 3/10 Put more time into it. The WordArt is pretty unique in a Comic and Fan-Art comic (as far as I know), but it's just WordArt, nothing more. Characters are half-decent, and the only reason you got a 3. I like the blue guy in the third panel, and the red guy's face. Also, COLOR IN your background, or don't have one at all. The door is outlined brown with white interior. Ridiculous. Also, I noticed that, unlike some first-time posters, you used 3/4 perspective. Good for you! Now, just use 3/4 perspective background.
Joke: 0/10 Been done a million times before (I don't even know if that can be considered hyperbole), and it was pretty lame back then, too. If you had posted it back when AIDs jokes were popular, it would've only gotten good reviews because of the delivery using art (face expressions and whatnots.)

Remonator: Photobucket.com or imageshack.us to host. Deviantart hosting is fine, but link directly to the comic or post the comic in your post. will put the picture in. (I think, I have yet to try of this forum, but since it's powered by vBulletin, I'd assume so.)
Art: 8/10 Hand-drawn comic, and excellently done at that. I really love the idea of adding fingers,clothes, and non-boxy (wc?) to your characters. Pretty original (again, as far as I know. Been lurking since around pg. 100-120 or something like that, so...blah.) Facial expressions are great, and add nicely to the joke quality.
Joke: 8/10 Great joke, reminds me of Kris. The characters are goofy, random, and always happy no matter what happens. I'd assume this is your first comic? If so, congrats and commendations. Personally, I love comics that break the 4th wall, but not excessively so. Your comic is just right in that department.

Art: 9/10 Very Kris-like, which works for me because Kris is my favorite out of all the C&H artists. Really, really like the highlighted hair; makes it seem more realistic.
Joke: 8/10 I'm glad you waited until the giant fad over Muhammad was over before making a comic about him. Original, rather than :band:. Delivery was great, and I enjoyed the way you put Moses in the fourth panel walking away rather than leaving two silent frames.

This is one of those comics I don't feel fits the explosm art style, but the humour style. It's similar to the original, though the original was literally more racy. Anyways, hope you like it.

Well, that is kinda depressing, considering he had BOTH. I still think aids jokes, even in this case, are still overdone and stupid. Oh and small spelling error, but nothing to fuss over. I only noticed it like half an hour later when I came back to look at some of them again.

Savril: Haha, I think Egomaniac Man's face did it for me. Nice art, but I laughed more at EM's face than the joke.

Remonator: Crazy. I think that's why I liked it. Not laugh out loud funny though. Again, I love your art style.

Hmm yes that was the irony of my joke, he worried about dying of HIV but then he was suddenly hit over by cancer. Tragical and depressive :)
