So it's been around for awhile now, how do you guys feel about it?

I realize it's not exactly a work of art, but I personally like most of the threads.

What do you want changed? Stricter or less strict modding? Debate competitions?

Debate Competitions are a pretty 'meh' idea.

I don't think many of us would go for debate competitions because that would require formal debate. I think it works fine as a general forum for discussions that have two or more sides to argue and demand a bit of thought. I'd say the modding is just right, but maybe I'm biased since you've never given me an infraction :shobon:

I thought the DZ was a good idea when it started, but now, it seems like it's not working. Many of the debate threads are really just GF threads or surveys, and get dumped.

That being said, the threads that remain are good debates. I think you guys may need to have slightly stricter modding and rule enforcement, but not too much.

The debate zone is the only forum in the entire explosm that doesn't get joke replies even in serious threads. So I'd say it's doing a good job (being a forum)

See, as a mod I can only do so much. I don't want to infringe on things that would be considered objective. It's not like I can infrac people and say "Discussing not debating." It would cause an uproar because I'd ban half the forum (though if everybody agrees this is a good idea, I'll sure try it.)

What would absolutely make the debate forum better would be giving me the power to boot people from the dz for certain lengths of a time. I would absolutely use that instead of the infac system (except for things that break the global rules) So rather than giving TOs, I could give 3 warnings, then boot somebody from the DZ for a week. It would help keep the average IQ at a reasonable level.

Even if some of the threads are more general discussion-like, DZ separates the serious ones from the ones you can drop jokes in, like John Travolta said.

Well personally I just think that this idea's worth a try. But that's just me.

Debating always doesn't have to be like "FUCK YO MAMA, I'M RIGHT!!". So it's good Audio doesn't ban everyone, but debating can also be real soothe like as it may appear they are just "discussing" instead of "debating".

But so far, I think it doesn't look like shit and theres really no serious rule breaking going on. If I could change one thing though, I would maybe open up to different topics. The only topics I see are "IS GOD REAL?" "EVOLUTION?" "JESUS EXISTS?". I'd like to see new things.

Do you have any good topics? Currently, it's up to us to come up with interesting debates. I think it's fine if Audio cracks down on shit topics. If you don't have anything to debate, don't bother.

I'm pretty lenient on dumb-shit topics, if anything it's the one thing I'm most lenient on, just because the dz is one of the slower forums. So if you have an idea for a thread, just make it, just as long as you put some effort in it. The worst thing that could happen is that I dump it.

I think the DZ is still doing pretty well, and I understand that the mods can't catch every shitty poster, but it still seems like more and more people are coming in and just stating their opinions without providing any sources and without reading the entire thread. I like Audioslave's idea of booting people from the DZ, I think it would clean up the place nicely.

+I just noticed as I was perusing the forums, MK and Audioslave now have jurisdiction over the DZ, Showcase, Media, and G&S forums. Have their modly powers been extended to other forums as well, or is it just a bug?

The DZ is a good idea and it seems to work well for the most part. Of course it draws in the idiots that are extremely adamant on a topic and have no support for their viewpoint or the people who are being stupid who are just begging for an infraction.

I think it needs stricter modding. If you are not debating or at least adding to the debate, (I do not consider "...but that is just my opinion" adding to a debate. To add to the debate you can at least include why you believe something or what led you to believe something if you are just going to give your opinion.) I feel that you should receive an infraction.

I like DZ. It's a place where people are afraid to post like retards because AS will slit their throats in a second. It makes for a nice change of pace from the others.

I haven't checked it recently, but what ruined it for me was that every other post was from someone who clearly had not read any of the previous posts. I find that to be profoundly distasteful.

It seemed to me that at least initially the sole purpose of the debate forum was to keep that crap out of the GF. If you've managed to make it into anything more than that, then bravo, sir.

It's being modded well, though you need to be slightly stricter.

Also, I'd like it if the mods could post more topics of their own as debate starters. I'm quite sure you're capable of finding some great topics for us to discuss about, cause the same ones have been sitting around for a while and it gets annoying to revisit the exact same debate over a week.
