If you like system of a down you definately should check this out.

I heard the song "Empty Walls" on the radio the other day and was like "Oh snap System of a Down got back together" but they didn't, it is just the Lead Singer's new band. The album elect the dead comes out Oct. 23.

I've been waiting patiently for this, for too long! And now it's finally here! I will be seeing him in Dallas on the 22nd, 1 day before he releases his new CD.

Now Daron just has to get Scars on Broadway rolling already >=|

I was devastated when they broke up.
I'm so excited now.
But it's still not the same :(

Uh, whoever said SOAD broke up?

They're just on a short hiatus for them to do their own stuff for a little bit.

They'll be back making music in a few years.

Yes I know that it's a Wikipedia link. Didn't feel like searching for anything else.

Honestly serj was the best part of them anyway, I know darron wrote alot of the songs but Serj's vocals are where it's at.

I distinguished his voice right away when I heard Empty Walls the first time. Love the chorus.

I heard Empty Walls the other night, awesome song.

Also I got a tip saying that System of a Down were coming to Sydney (Australia). I have no idea when or anything like that, and I'm a bit skeptical about it but has anyone else heard about this?

I would bet they wouldnt be going anywhere together for at least a year. Serj's cd is just about to come out and Darron and John's band hasn't even released a single.

Wow, that video was so cutting! A commentary on the Iraq War from a musician! And using the innocence of children in your film clip to boot! I can literally smell the originality and policy change!

/sarcasm

(Not too bad of a song, though)

Considering he has always been political I don't see you point.

That's like "OMG ADAM SANDLER MAKING COMEDY HOW ORIGINAL".

I think what he is saying is that he developed a new band but it is just as if he didn't, and a sense of a cliché.

I feel the same way, if I wasnt aware I would think it was just another system song.

exactly...throw this track on a SOAD cd you wouldn't know the difference, however please don't jump to conclusions that I am bashing the band, infact I like them...seen them in 2002 when they came to my city.

I don't get how that is a bad thing. SOAD is done, so what is wrong with the Vocalist/Songwriter continuing HIS band by himself. He plays 95% of the instruments on this cd and he wrote all the lyrics. It isn't SOAD it is Serj and it was Serj when it was SOAD if that makes any sense.

To be honest I think the guitarist was better and has a better voice. Just look at the track lonely day. That absolutely kicked ass. To say "It isn't SOAD it is Serj and it was Serj when it was SOAD" is entirely selfish towards the other band members.

Lonely day was a crappy song lyrically. Just like all the Hollywood songs. Daron Malakian writes really shallow lyrics and I have a feeling that's why they split up. Old School Hollywood was about a celebrity baseball game where daron felt picked on for fucks sake.

You disect music way to much. Except it for what it is, It was written like that for a reason, although thats what it actually may of been about, the way the words a written it could mean a number of things. No wonder they arent a band anymore, people like you disect the music way to hardout and choose favourites and split them into indivduals instead of a band that writes music as one. Who cares who wrote this or that riff, who cares if one cant write lyrics as well as the other. Music isnt life, accept it for what it is and stop trying to open up its ass crack to see whats inside, in the end it will just shit all over you anyway.

I'm not dissecting anything. Daron Malakian wanted more recognition considering he wrote alot of the songs so he 1) Started Singing more and 2) Wrote more songs his style. The band was already changing and no one expects a band to last forever. System of a Down was awsome and I respect all of them for what they contributed, but they are done now and odds are they aren't coming back. The downfall of system of a down was graceful and we will see if Daron and John go on to be as successful as Serj is going on to be.

Thats the answer I was hoping for, thank you. We are now in agreement :)

Daron said Lonely Day was one of his least favorite songs anyway. Shavo had to force it out of him. We can all admit that there are 2 different phases of SOAD, the Toxicity era, and the Mez/Hyp era. I personally like the Toxicity era more, but I think Mezmerize was also very well organized (I liked it more than Hypnotize.)

During SOAD's last tour, Daron toyed around with a vocoder alot. This is what he says his new band will sound like, still a heavy sound but with little electronic elements.

Maybe it's because I'm a bigger SOAD fan than anything else, but I think I will be pleased with what Serj has to offer. And I think Scars on Broadway will do an excellent job as well.

If you listen closely to Empty Walls, you can tell it's a song Serj wrote, it's something he would've done during SOAD, but it still has his mark of originality in it.

Also, Serj Tankian now resides in New Zealand, until the end of the Iraq War.

I finally pulled myself together to see the videos, and the man has still got his touch. Now I'm completely hooked on those two songs >_<

Its 50-50 in my eyes, some songs are fantastic, but when he does a slow song (Which there are alot of) it just all falls apart. I would rate it 7/10 at best.

Just got my special edition pack in the mail, the CD quality is awesome, I love this cd and like most system of a down cd's it doesn't get old very fast.

edit: For system fans, the bonus disc has a updated version of "Blue" it sounds great cosnidering the only copy i have of it is the system demo.

Not a very big fan of it. I liked the first two System of A Down albums, but everything they've put out just sounds wayyyy too alike. That's how I feel with Tankian's solo stuff too, it just sounds like System to me.

I loved SOAD, but I didn't think Serj soloing was a good idea.

I've been completley proven wrong...

System is/was one of my favorite bands, it seems that serj will hold his own as far as music is concerned, though unless you really listen it does sound like system. Hopefully scars will be a little more distinguishable, and just as good

'Elect the Dead' is where I discovered Serj, then my brother told me he had an old band,so I checked them out and fell in love.
