Napoleon Dynamite is playing right now on Comedy Central so I decided why not watch it again. Some people claim this is the best movie ever made and label it as their favorite of all time. It does have some funny moments, but I don't think those few funny moments can make up for the rest of the movie which really is crap. Does anyone really love this movie who can explain to me what I'm missing?

I have to agree, it has it's moments definetly... But I had to force myself to watch the last half, the movie just ... gets on my nerves I guess

I found it a strange kind of humour, it's less that the movie itself is funny, but the way the characters are that is funny. When I talked about it with a friend afterwards, it seemed really funny. It's an ordinary setting and storyline though, so it drags in between the funny parts.

It was so big because it was so different. We had already seen countless comedies with sex jokes and vulgar language. Then Napoleon Dynamite came along with quite possibly the nerdiest kid ever and some of the most hilariously bizarre quotes ("A team of Japanese scientists tried to blow Nessie out of the water"). It was something refreshingly different.
Plus it being an independent film didn't hurt it either. It hit right at the time when every wanted to be 'emo' and 'indie'.
It's one of the funniest yet, pointless movies ever made.

I hated it so much.

I didn't see it until about a year after it came out, & by then I had heard all of the jokes from people who thought they were being funny by over quoting an indie film.
Napoleon Dynamite got old fast for me. I can see how the movie can be entertaining during the first watch, but loses the humor after that.

I never found the movie that bad, it was actually pretty funny. My only problem, is how the public, ruined the character through horrible impressions, every where you went.
As soon as a legit comedy attracts to pre-teens, it's done. Borat suffered the same fate.

It was one of the funniest films ever that's all I have to say.

It was pretty funny, but not all the time. Some parts were really boring for me.
We watched it at my buddy's house and ate steak and tater tots for dinner. :shobon:

It is a pointless movie, and that is where the humor comes from.

Napolean Dynamite is one of the worst movies, I've personally watched. Ever.

If you have very limited time I say you watch it at Angry Alien. Its just really to the point, and it re-acted by rabits (cartoon rabits). Its just really senseless. Borat on the other hand brought out the worst of us when we face a foreigner.
I gotta admit Napoleon has it moments, but it pretty much sucks. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the suckiest) its pretty much a 15.

I watched it, and like most of you say, it had its moments. The characters were original, and I think part of its appeal was that it was so dry and real...you could look at the characters and say, "Yeah, that reminds me of ___________ so much, wow!" Then everyone ruined it with their shitty impressions of it and by putting llama stuff everywhere...yeah, you're so witty and original with your fucking llama T-shirt. People started acting "random" because it became cool...which is not cool. So basically, it was an alright movie that created a lot of irritating trends.
Living in Australia, it didn't really make much of a splash, a least not with anyone I know.
I watched it on DVD and I thought it was great, but not the best ever, and then a year later it got a bit more popular and well known.
It still just seems good bordering on average.

I like it, but it's one of those films where you either hate it or love it. And once you've seen it once and know the jokes it loses its appeal. But I still like it.

It's like Monty Python - the original film/script is nowhere near as funny as the loud, raucous retelling of it

It's just so fucking funny, that's why it's one of the best movies ever. It's just 2 hours of plotless humor and randomness. What else could you want? (Besides graphic violence and nudity, of course, but... whatever)

I hated hated hated Napoleon Dynamite. I didn't see it in theaters, but I practically had the entire movie in my head by so many fucking people quoting it in the halls. So I actually decided to borrow it from a friend, to see what the big fuss was about. I literally laughed once or twice. I didn't even see the ending, I was wasting my time.
I might have liked it a little better if I had actually seen it in theaters before people quoted the entire thing to death.

I thought it was alright. Bits and pieces were funny but I don't get the idea of it being hilarious all the way through.
And if I see 1 more person wearing a 'vote for pedro' tshirt, I'm gonna stab them in the face with a fork and throw vinegar on them for being shit.
EDIT: Merely because I'm sick to death of seeing the tshirt, not as a reflection on the movie.

Awesome film. The fact that it is about total losers (REAL losers, too), that it has no real point, that it seems so out of date, that it is so original...
The only film that made me laugh as hard as that, recently anyways, was Scary Movie 3 where they did the "Signs" rip-off with the alien walking across the screen behind the shitting horse. Fuck, I'm laughing now just thinking about that scene.

It was one of the best movies ever while it was in theaters. The quotes were funny when they weren't on T-Shirts everywhere, and people quoting it constantly just kinda ruined the movie for me.

That was such a horrible movie, it was 2 hours of complete pointlessness, which works sometimes. This movie failed at life though. I guess it had a few funny parts, but nothing that made up for the rest. I don't know, maybe my problem was that everyone around me said it was the best movie ever, so I was expecting something that I would be peeing over. Yeah, I never peed.

I live in South Africa, so there wasn't too much over-quoting. I watched it twice. The first time I didn't really get it, and switched off after 20 minutes. But the second time, I laughed so hard i literally cried. The humour's kinda reminiscent of Monty Python, which I love. Understandably not for eveyone though.

I hate it because of the fact that every single person that tries to be cool quotes lines from the movie.

It's not a good movie.
They relied to much on the random factor. "OMG HAA IT'S A LAMMA OMG LOL." and did not actually use any comedy.
Many people say "its just funneh cause it was so stupid".
But in all reality it was actully pretty smart humor considering it was different.
But as others mentioned, the mainstream ruined that movie.
Ask me about it 20 years.

I liked it because the character had funny hair.

i liked it in general, but some specific parts were boring.
it seemed realistic, a loser gets a bit of glory from a cool dance, and gets a loser girlfriend in the end...
