View Full Version : A games forum?
I've noticed that Media Whorehouse is 95% game threads, with a dumb "hay do u guys like the simpsons" thread thrown in every few days.
There's obviously a lot of gamers here. Would you guys like to see a game subforum, apart from the media forum? Instead of it?
This is directed toward people who actually discuss games in that forum, so keep "MY PRECIOUS FORUM LIST WILL GET LONGER :wail:" type posts to yourself.
Also, while we're all here, what do you guys think of the new system-specific tags in that forum? For some weird ass reason the only console that had its own tag was the X-Box, so I went in and added ones for the others as well.
A games sub-forum would be nice.
OUI!

Keep the Media Forum as is, video games and all, but crack down on "lul apu>>>>comic book guy" threads. Console-specific tags wouldn't hurt.
It'd be good because there so many game threads that the media forum is mostly videogames.

I think Games forum would be ok, but it needs somthing else small attatched to it, like Surveys for a random example.

Hilarious.

the media forum is fine, it's not a huge ration difference between game threads and things like movies and music threads.

I'm pretty sure we have a tag for the PS3, 360, and the Wii. :ahe:

I do not think there needs to be a subforum. If you made a subforum just for games I have a feeling that the Media forum would be barely used.

Most of what I post is game stuff in the media forum, but I wouldn't be opposed to a subforum for games. It should encompass more than just video games, though.. Discussion about tabletop RPGs, hell even board games, any sort of "game" that isn't a forum game. It would only serve to make the forums more ordered and organized, which is nice for my OCD.

I like the idea of having a subforum, but I wouldn't be effected either way. I voted yes, though.
I changed my mind because as BMP said there really aren't that many more videogame thread.

That's why we should just leave media as it is.

Still with a new sub-forum it would be alot better, and organized. I vote yes, and not to mention I think it would make a better threads if its more than video games.
There was a Wii tag and I made Playstation but it was never accepted. :shobon:
But I don't think we currently need a Games forum. Like you said it's 95% games, which would make the regular Whorehouse only about 5% as useful.

I'm for a game forum. It's probably where the majority of my posts would end up going.
Speaking of which could I mod said forum?

No you may not.

No, the media forum is fine the way it is. It's not worth making another forum, it would just encourage the retards that would dissuade the people who actually like video game threads.
The forum would still be moderated, Audioslave.
I want to hear a good argument as to why we shouldn't have one, that doesn't rely on the index getting too cluttered or there being "too many forums"
If it's a totally different subject with a unique interest and a different type of discussion (speculation, promo content, tons of info like this (http://forums.explosm.net/showthread.php?t=7874) thread). I don't see the harm in separating it from movies and TV.
In other words, explain to me the negative impact a games forum would have.

I don't have a problem with movie/TV threads leaking into the GF, since a lot of the time movies can have sensible content that can lead to good discussions. Games should be kept apart since it's usually jabbering on about an awesome kill you got, or about the cool graphics in a game that's coming up. Not really GF content.
We're better off with a Games forum, and general media allowed in the GF.

I don't really see the point in putting another click between game threads and the rest of the Media Whorehouse.

What would we gain from it? All it would do is make Media less active. I don't see the point of separating them.
I don't really see the point in putting another click between game threads and the rest of the Media Whorehouse.
Media Whorehouse has extremely different threads that attract different types of people.
When someone clicks S/S, they're thinking "Hmm, I wonder what people have created". When someone clicks DZ, they're thinking "Hmm, I wonder what's being argued about"
I don't think anyone clicks MW and thinks "Boy, I sure do feel like catching up on the good ol' media". They go there for either the games or the other stuff, and thats obvious from the threads people reply too.
Why not give gamers a forum they can click and KNOW that it's about games? Gamers exist on these forums. "Media fans" do no exist here or anywhere.

You're a fucking disgrace to Your Dad.

If that's true then creating a games forum would slow down Media a huge amount, wouldn't it? There'd be little or no threads in there.

I like Kwanza's idea of letting movies and TV threads trickle into the GF. Those two subjects are more discussion-oriented. Game threads are more tech support, speculation, and "GUYS I FUCKIN GOT THIS SWEET KILL"
Well the MW was "Video Game Funhouse" for like 3 hours originally.
I agree with changing it back. The 5% of other threads are not going to clog up the GF.
And if it eventually does, just make a forum for movies/music/etc.

Why not make a Tech forum? All things electronic (video games, computers, etc) could go there, and movies and music and such could go in the GF.
There are a lot more game threads than there are movie/television show threads in the forum. Therefore I don't see the point of movies and television having their own when they aren't that popular.

Agreed.
I think MH is fine the way it is. I go there a bit and I like the mix, seeing as how I don't go specifically for one type or another.

I think you should make the Games Forum a sub-forum in the Media Whorehouse forum. Simple as.

Nobody's mentioned music. Do you want the GF to turn into a music forum?
I said this in the sports thread, people will talk about it if there's a forum for it, and if there's not, out of sight out of mind. I've seen a fair amount of music discussion in Media in addition to games talk. If music/movies/TV/sports all get lumped into GF, it'll either overflow or nobody will bother talking about these things. If you separate GF (news and real life), Media, and Sports, you'll get organized discussions all around.

I check the whorehouse to see what's coming out and what's good, wether it's games or movies. Rarely music though, because you all have shit taste in music.
I'm sure whoever's into games is into movies anyway- I'm not sure how it is the other way around. I think it's perfect as is, and you'd see less threads about movies if you moved them to the GF. I barely go to the General Forum, so I'd miss them all =/
I'm not sure how it is the other way around.
That's the thing, it doesn't quite work the other way around. Everyone goes to the movies, but not everyone plays video games. That's why I think movie discussion should fall under "general discussion" while games should have a section that caters to gamers.
A big reason that movies don't get talked about much in MW is that movie threads are just sort of wedged in there among a bunch of nerd shit that a lot of people don't care about.
See what I mean?

No, stop dividing the forums you fool!!
That said, The Media Whorehouse is fine. If it's all games threads, so what. Games are media.
ALTERNATE IDEA:
Make "Media Funhouse" a separator like "Topical Forums", then have Movies, TV, Games, and Music under that. Major drawback is the index would get tall as fuck. It would organize things better, though.
With the new index layout and forum tags, clutter is less of an issue.
Or for less clutter, still have a link to Media Whorehouse, but once there it's just a shitload of subforums.
So it would be like
Explosm Forums>Topical Forums> Media Whorehouse> TV, Video Games, PC, Movies, etc
Seems like unnecessary clickage.

I really don't care how many forums you make.
However, the Music Forum would turn into rampant flame wars between the ska fans and metal fans. There really isn't too much talk about TV, cuz all the shows nowadays suck. We already have the Review Pile for movies.
If you're looking for negatives about making new forums for it, I'm not gonna offer any. However, I fail to see any real positives.

My view has shifted. Who cares if the index gets tall as fuck, people can scroll and deal with it. I like Rob's idea of spreading the Media into the Movies, Music, Games, and T.V. forums. The site's getting bigger so I'm sure they'd all have plenty of posts.
Oberlin, there'd still be rules for flaming, so I don't think it'd get very out of hand.

I actually do think that is a good idea Rob, it would make the media funhouse a little more lively i think. It may also attract more posters there if it was split up like that, i would like to say that change.
I'll make a new thread, 1 sec.
