View Full Version : Beowulf!
Holy fuck fuckety fuck fucking fuck!
They're making a Beowulf (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0442933/) movie! This is the single most awesome story ever written, also the oldest surviving piece of writing in English which is why I had to read it last year at university.
It has vikings, sea monsters and treasure and the single most bad ass guy in history.
Here's the trailer. (http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/beowulf/)
I fucking love this story and they're making a movie of it! I can't wait.
I love vikings!

Beowulf, isn't he the guy who pulls the arm off the Grendel? And has like a magic unbreakable sword?
Saw the trailer the other day when I went to the movies, and all I have to say is that it seemed to be strangely... digital. After a moment it was obvious they were real people, but they seemed to have some sort of digital overlay that took away some of the visual realism. I find that kind of disappointing — if they're going to do that, shouldn't it make things look, you know, better?
...But I'll still see it, of course, because it does look awesome nonetheless.

Pretty sure they're 3d models. Which is kind of stupid. Looks pretty good otherwise.

The photography is strange (cannot tell if it is all digital or actors with a digital "film" over them; thought I am leaning towards the latter), but that will not prevent me from seeing it.

I hated reading it but I'm sure watching it will be more fun.

I liked Beowulf. I read it senior year of high school, along with Grendel. I'm interested to see how the movie will turn out.

They already made a Beowulf movie, but it wasn't a huge big budget blockbuster. I'm sure Hollywood will find some way to ruin the story while supplementing plenty of eye candy so none are the wiser.

I didn't know they already had one out. Now I a going to go and rent it.
It's 100% CG, which makes it funny that two of the people in this thread think the trailer had real people.
I guess CG is getting pretty damn good.

I don't understand the point in rendering a 3D model that realistic to the real actors when they just could have filmed the damn movie with live actors.
If someone can explain that, please do. I see it as being a waste of budget.

Just because they can.

Once CG improves to the point where it is indistinguishable with reality (which is already close to true) I think movie studios will just license the image of an actor to use in a film. Think about it, they could make any actor younger, older, thinner, fatter however they want them to appear. They'll either do that, or create CG "actors."
Wow, that'll be interesting. I had to study Beowulf last year, hard going, but worth it. When was the first film released, 'Droid?

They put awesome actor Ray Winston's head on a younger, fitter guy;s body instead of his plump od number. Pretty fucken clever if you ask me.
No longer do the action heros need to be played by guys with more abs than talent.

There was Beowulf (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120604/) in 1999 with Christopher Lambert.
They also did another one more recently that I caught about half of on the Sci Fi Channel. It was called Beowulf and Grendle (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0402057/) and was released in 2005.
Okay, so, Angelina Jolie looked exactly like she does in real life. And then everyone else looked stupidly shiny.
:/ Yeah, it'll be cool once they can do a better job of this stuff. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within looked more realisitic without doing this crap.

Holy shit, it's all CG? I didn't even notice when I saw the trailer at the theater the other day. I hope they don't fuck this up, because it's an awesome story.

Wow I actually had to go through and watch the trailer again more closely to see it was all computer animated. I didnt even notice on the first viewing - just thought it was just a really shiny movie.
