Ok, so Rob cleared up what circle jerking is. It's pretty straight forward.
Now I have a suggestion. Picture threads can be pretty cool, also, it's nice to know what the person behind the posts looks like. So I have an idea...
What if we had a pictures only thread, where forumers were only allowed to post pictures, any discussion will earn you an infraction. Then we make a sister thread for the discussion of pictures posted in the pictures thread?
This is the method used on other forums, I know, but maybe it's a way of alleviating circle jerks in the pics thread?

If there was a thread like this, it should at the very least be stickied, and each person only given one post, which they can edit from time to time as they get new pictures.
It's much the same as people just posting new photo's once in a while. I don't think post edits mark them as unread, so we'll never know if anyone updated their post?

I figure we'd just have to check it often.. If people could post all the time adding new pictures, it'd just turn into attention whore-fest '07 and post boosting-palooza all rolled together.
Then we would just have two threads full of circle jerking.

I read the first post and my dumbass reply was like me disagreeing with the idea.
Maybe it'd be a good idea to put the threads in G&S and make posts in the discussion thread not count?
EDIT: G&S mods are going to hate me now...
I think the best plan in those threads is not allowing posts that don't contain a picture with the poster in it. Allow discussion but only if the post contains a picture. If not then they get an infraction and the post gets removed.

Yeah, I think the real reason those threads always get dumped is because people start circle-jerking without actually contributing their own pics.
Sexy womens should be banned from posting their pictures.
Or rather creepy 13 year olds should be banned from hounding all over them.

Far, you do realise that that would just mean that there would be about 100 pictures of everybody in there? Just make one thread that can only have pictures posted in it. And then make another thread in spame as discussion. And sticky it. Also, because it's in spame, there would be more pictures posted. I know that on the forums I used to run, you could select "Picture only thread" which meant, you could only post a actual image, we originally had it so that you only had to have the [IMG] tags in, but people just put them in, and typed between, so we made it that it had to be an attachment ending with a certain tag, like .jpg .pdf .png e.t.c.

No it wouldn't. I still believe people are self conscious enough that they aren't going to load the thread up with pictures of themselves. Most people only ever put up one or two pictures any way. I doubt anyone is going to go searching for more just to comment on someone else.

Where as if you have something like my idea, then no one is going to repost pictures 5 or so times, because they can't apply text into the post. Mind you, then the spame discussion page with be full of shit I suppose. The discussion page will get filled with shit anyway I suppose, no matter where it is. Meh.
What about 1 post only in that thread? And it can be edited at anytime but never be able to post in that thread again.

I dunno, a discussion thread about a picture thread sounds pretty lame imo. Maybe we could make it so that you got to have 100 posts to view it or so? It would get rid of annoying noobs posting their pics that noone cares about.

It's not really as most of the people that do the circle jerking in that thread are established members with well over 100 posts anyway. So that doesn't exactly curb what we're trying to to prevent in there.

Every six months a regular will make a pictures thread and you post if you feel inclined. It's not like this is an ongoing problem outside of spame. If it gets worse, just infrac for not contributing.
