Would it be possible to apply a word filter every part of the forums except spame, that denies your post if it contains things like "lol" "rofl" "hahahahaha" "y" "r" "u" and other annoying aolism's and shortened words?
So basically, you post something like this
"lolz, tht comic suks teh balls, u r rly ghey lolz"
And when you hit reply, it'd take you to this screen, that'd say;
"Sorry, your post was unable to be validated because of these reasons.
'lolz, tht comic suks teh balls, u r rly ghey lolz'
Please correct your aolism's and/or remove your shortened words.
Thank You
Explosm"
And then you just go, oh golly gosh, why was I such a moron?
And change it to;
"Wow, that comic really sucked, you must be highly attracted towards members of your own gender to make such a stupid comic."
I believe that this would be a great help, because it'd save the Moderators heaps of time, because they wouldn't go into a thread and see half a dozen lol's lying around, and have to ban each of them individually.
People would start to realise pretty quickly that they need to type properly, because they won't want to keep having to redo posts.
It'd still leave shit grammar and lack of capitals. Maybe you could also have a piece in the filter that recognises that fact there isn't even one captial (for the first word), or one fullstop/exclamation mark/question mark. But that would be getting quite hard I imagine.

I don't think they can set it up like that, it would block every post that contained the letters "u" or "r".
Not if you were looking for " u " :indiff:

EDIT: Of course Soad, great idea, just make it filter " u " and " r ". So the spaces are included.
I love you :)

I rarely see posts that are as bad as that, anyway. And in the ones that do contain that kind of crap, it's often a typo or something.
I think this would just be a chance for the mods to be lazy. This is a reason we have moderators in the first place.

Ah, but you see. The mods would be able to take their time away from AOLism's, and put it into helping people learn to spell, or how telling them how to use grammar, e.t.c
Grammar is the main issue you see, but AOLism's are the easiest to stop. So take away the AOLism's and the grammar can be picked on easier.
Posts by non-lurking noobs that look like this "lolz, u r teh ghey" are fairly uncommon, meaning I see about 2 per day, sometimes more, sometimes less, especially if someone has decided to join, didn't lurk, and shits up every fucking thread with AOLism's. But having this filter would erase them completely.
Ones that look like this, "hello i am a noob who has apparently misplaced every key except my spacebar and backspace which in turn makes my posts into a giant fucking sentence even if they are in the debate zone and are like 40 lines long even then i have no punctuation", are very common, Or if they know where to put fullstops;
hello
my name is dickhead
i cant use fullstops or commas
so i just push the enter key
fuck i am annoying
but i dont care
because i am noob
yay
See, annoying isn't it. Even with people who frequent these forums, the first part of the second kind seems to pop up fairly often :indiff: Which sucks. So the mods could focus on the second problem rather than the first, because the first wouldn't be a problem, because it wouldn't exist.

I think it's a better idea not to add a blocker like this.. If someone is going to make a post like that, it'll be caught quick anyway, and it helps to weed out the idiots.

But with a blocker, the idiots can learn or fuck off. As I said, it saves time.

They're mods, not English teachers. Besides, they probably enjoy handing out infractions.
RabidMonkey

Well they can just hand out 100 infractions a day then, minimum, shouldn't be hard...
Just hand them out for grammar and shit spelling, shit posts e.t.c. Because with this AOLism's will not need to be worried about as I said.

I know a forum that has a smartness system, and you gain 1 smartness for every post with no errors. You lose points for stuff like u and r, not capitalising, etc. It starts on 5000 and you get banned for a while if it dips below 4000.
It's a bit draconian though, something a bit less extreme could be good.

We should filter 'lol', 'lmao' and 'rofl' into "I am a retarded child"

Great so instead of this post.
"lolz, tht comic suks teh balls, u r rly ghey lolz"
Being made into this post.
"Wow, that comic really sucked, you must be highly attracted towards members of your own gender to make such a stupid comic."
It will get changed to this.
"I am a retarded child, I am a retarded child comic I am a retarded child I am a retarded child balls, u r I am a retarded child I am a retarded child I am a retarded child"
Great.
EDIT: With some minor editing. I am a retarded child's balls

Yeah, but why stop with Lol, lmao, and rofl, why not add, teh, hai, mai, gai, ghey, u, r, etc.
Fuck that, if people can't write properly, that's just their own problem, if they write like that, they're mostly retarded, who are making retarded posts that people don't care about anyway.

With this feature, you won't have to ignore it because it won't be there.

It's still a stupid idea.
It's nice in theory, but it doesn't let people use AOLisms ironically to mock someone, which is occasionally pretty funny.
I think the current system works fine.
