View Full Version : Name Changes?
Recently MK and Oxtail had their usernames changed and I was wondering if the mods/admins could possibly set up a request form for the average user so they can get a name change too.
I'm pissed with my name because it's... shit. But I'm sure there are more people out there who aren't happy with theirs. Perhaps you could limit it so that you can't change your name all the time.
If there is already a place to request, could someone point me in the right direction? :ahe:

I think that people should only be allowed two changes. One for a different name and another to get their old ones back, if possible. The restrictions shouldn't be post count, because that would ensue massive post boosting. Maybe you would have to be here for 6-8 months or something. Or like a year.

I suppose it's a good idea, but I don't like the idea of regulars (I don't mean the rank title, I mean people who regularly vist and post here) drastically changing their names. Like Urser: If you could, say, just change it from ursername180 to Ursername or something like that, it'd be alright, because we all know you as Urser. Same with FreezingMormon; even changing your name to Freezy or something would be cool. But I think it's kind of silly to change your name to something completely different, after everyone already knows you as something else (like CoffeeandTV to Chrono ).
I wouldn't mind a name change >_>

Tempest
10-06-2007, 5:15 PM
I think a better idea is just to only allow name changes that aren't completely new.. For example, I used to be TempestDevil, I scratched the Devil in my name change.. Oxtail-Soup became Ox. Shortening, etc, is fine. MK's name got totally changed, but his custom title reflects that now.. Just some way to still be able to tell who people are.

I mean, to all the people who put numbers in their names: did you even bother to look at the list of users before choosing? I mean I seriously doubt that you thought there were 35 other Benjamans. And to all the people with long names (FreezingMormon and DDTS) - we can just abbreviate or call you a nickname (A la freezey or SOAD). I mean, Ursername180's name is kinda dumb, but if he shortened it to just Urser or something it'd be cool.

Damn it, I could have been Jamez4999!!!! hehe, but seriously when thinking of an alias you guys should obviously know it's going to be permenant so I wouldn't make one spur-of-the-moment because many forums do not allow this, so you should be prepared to keep the name for as long as you stay. Admin name changes kick ass (:hf: Kwanza), but I don't think everyone should be allowed one. Like people said, OxTail to Ox was clean, and I can see MechySue's name being changed to Mr. Crow, because Karasu is some foreign language for crow.
Basically if you're not cool enough to get an admin to change it for you, personally, then feck off.
Like, I had to bug an admin for my name change. I think that, other people should have to do that too.
Plus it makes the forums game like, and EVERYONE would chang eit ALL THE TIME.
It's just, it's you're fucking name.

How about;
After 1 year you can change your name.
Then, every 2 years you have an option to change again. And for at least 2 weeks after change, your old name would be in place of "Regular" e.t.c.
And once you've changed it, you're stuck with it till the next time you can name change.

Being able to just change your own name is a stupid idea because then other people wouldn't know who you are. I think it should stay as it is - having to ask an admin. Although if it's going to be more frequent than it is now, there should be some way to identify there old username. But instead of the custom title idea - because custom titles are only for the cool people - the name-changee should forfeit their signature space for a couple of weeks and have something like "the artist formerly known as Username".

There should be a name change subforum, where you make a thread about changing your name, attach a poll, and have Explosm vote on if you're allowed to. probably my worst idea ever.

Or the post is left, and edited by an admin to say if it was approved, and for future reference, what the person's name was before.
Is it really that hard to tell who someone was? Just go look at their past posts if you can't figure out Urser was Ursername180 or Tempest was Tempestdevil.

[AVATAR]
I never knew your old username was Drunk Scot. :ahe:
I must say, it feels a bit weird having Oxtail-Soup and ursername180 shortened. It's almost like we've lost a bit of the culture of the forums :wail:
I really, really want to change mine, which is partially why I support the idea. But other than that it's just good, but people shouldn't be able to change it more than once. But an admin should have to agree that it should be changed.

I really think an admin should be pmed or something, seeing as if you have 1000 posts or are pretty much a regular on the forums, they'll know who you are and whether they'll give you a name change or not.
As for the issue of know who the person was, the admins could just put some notification on the user's profile.

Mr Crow is waiting for Mr Anorexia to die of starvation so that he may pluck the juicy eyeballs out of his carcass.

Mr. Crow and Mr Anorexia. He avoided copyright laws by adding a period, sorry Mr A. Anyway, I think we're coming up with too many intricate ideas, etc, for this. I think all we need is a perm namechange thread here in the comment dump.. If someone just shortens their name, no harm, no foul, if it's a complete change (Which should probably be done less than shortenings, just on the principle), a custom title for a week or so.
