I don't know if this question belongs to this thread but,
is there any possible chance we will se a third tourney?

Why not? This one's coming along pretty well.
From a bystander point of view, I don't see why there couldn't be. It may not be picked up for a while, but there can always be a third one if someone can host it.
Aside from a few snags everything is running well. I wouldn't be opposed to holding another in the future or letting someone else if you guys aren't happy with the way I'm doing things.

I think this one has been going smoothely, especially with a subforum and Far doing a fantastic job keeping the threads organized. I also think the polls shouldn't be allowed to be commented in though, it could throw biased opinions by reading people's comments before voting.
Either I have them talk in the battle or the voting. If I have them talk in the battle then I have to keep it open after while the voting poll is open too and it just seems redundant to have two threads open regarding the same thing.

What's the prize for the winner? Has that been decided yet?
I can't give anyone anything. Relaps said he would talk to someone about possibly a shirt but it was never confirmed.

Well yeah, last year's had a prize because it was actually hosted/modded by the site staff. This one is user-made, not admin-made.

I'm pretty sure the mods are just as interested in this as everyone else. If they made and ran the last one, and made a Subforum for this one, i'm pretty sure they will be willing to offer a shirt as a prize.
Well I can't say that they are going to for sure or not. Like I said it's a possibility but honestly I wouldn't count on it.

What about something else, like a custom title or blue flames?
I can talk to relaps about it. I mean I'd like to be able to give something away but like I've said I'm not making any promises.

If you're voting for ourself just because you can then you're being an unfair asshole.
I think this is a little unfair to say, Far. Participants really shouldn't be allowed to vote in their own polls at all, but we don't have the ability to implement that. Since the logical thing for entrants to do is vote for themselves anyway, if each person votes for themselves, they'll effectively cancel eachother out as if they hadn't voted.
I know you're already aware of that, but you really shouldn't call people assholes/douchebags for it.
Well you can enforce it if you make it a public poll.
See who voted for who, and if someone voted when they are in the contest, discount their vote.
If you're voting solely for yourself just because it's you and you did a shit job you're not going to get any mercy from me. Last time for the round that I was in I voted for Assassin because I believe he did a better job then I did. I don't really see why people are saying cheating, essentially, is ok.
The logical thing, I would think, wouldn't be for people to vote for themselves but rather whoever did a better job. If that was you then voting for yourself is fine. If your opponent did a better job then you then they deserve the vote. It's really as simple as that.

Sorry everyone isn't as noble as you :/
It is ultimately their decision and they aren't douches if they vote for themself. Do you think George Bush voted for Kerry in the last election?
edit: or conversely Kerry for Bush >_<
George bush is a pretty big douche bag...
And really you're trying to equate a comic competition to the presidential race? Also all of this is just my view on it, why you're arguing against my right to think people that aren't doing the right thing by being dishonest is well beyond me as it doesn't really matter.

You should make posts not count in this forum, it would stop a whole lot of post boosting.

Yeah, but it makes it seem more active and more lively.
Which makes it more of a motivation to make your comic.
I agree with Far. I'm not going to vote for myself in a poll, whether I think I did better or not. It's pretty weak if you do that. Public polls are a good idea.

I would turn off post count if I could in here.

Next round all the polls will be public.

I still don't see the problem, long as each entrant votes for themselves.
Or they could vote for each other. That's pretty good sportsmanship.

Well, if you're like most of us, this is just for fun...and it is fun to make something and have someone continue it and you have to retaliate that person's comic based on what they did to your character. I hope I can play past one round :D

I think some of the comics will be shit because a lot of the good artists are going first round. Wildcard, perhaps? :whale:

I think the only rule should be the two days rule. I can't think of anything else we really need to run the tournament. If you say THESE ARE THE RULES then it makes it look like a forum game. Don't you the word "discrepancies" again, I had to look it up =(
Ask admins about prizes when it gets further on in the tournament.
Also, can Relaps add polls to threads now? He's a mod of somewhere, so maybeee... Whatever, you should get that sorted for round 2.
+Voting for yourself is one vote, fuckin leave it.
If relaps is around to make the polls then he can. I'm not gonna wait around for him to do it nor am I going to put responsibility on him to do so. And no I'm not leaving the votes in for yourself. Next round the people in the match can't vote and I'll be using public polls. Then there will be no problem either way.
Once the votes are done I'm thinking of merging the poll thread with the actual match to cut down on the amount of threads.
I_Smell
10-08-2007, 12:31 PM
Well then you should get the ability to add polls yourself.
+SEEMS LIKE SOME EFFORT TO STOP A POSSIBLE ONE VOTE DIFFERENCE FFS
So if the polls aren't public allready, is it only people in the tournament that can vote?
I have no way of restricting who votes to just who entered and if I do we'll only get at most 30 votes a poll, much less more then likely.

"Public" just means you can see who voted for each option, dude.
..how did you NOT know that!?

I have an actual rule question. When does the poll(s) end?
Seems like 2 days after they start.
Yup they close two days from when they are opened.

Do your character have to be a living object?
No as long as you can think if good comics for it then it's fine. It'd probably help if it was somewhat sentient though.
Can't you delete the past rounds or something? To make this tournament easier to understand.
Killer Carebear
10-13-2007, 2:58 PM
Maybe make a megathread (not for the new ones of course) with all battles and then delete the old ones. Although that may be annoying to do.
The past rounds are going to end up at the bottom. It's going to be pretty shitty if I delete the past rounds because then no will be able to read them. So I could. I'm not going to though.
Besides if you can't figure out which threads are for this round when they are clearly labeled 2 then I really don't know what to do to help you.

That'd be confusing as hell.

Yeah, I realized that. I was just trying to think of a better alternative to deleting the past threads. But since you're not going to, doesn't really matter.
I figured out a way to clean up the forums a bit. All threads concerning a match, after the match and poll is complete will be merged. The match thread will come first in the new thread and the poll will be right after it.
Hats of!

Shouldn't the other rounds be removed? It would look cleaner.
And useless to anyone that wanted to see them.

Hmm, would it be possible to make subforums IN this subforum? Like Round 1, 2, etc.
Matterialize
10-15-2007, 2:15 AM
Nah, I don't think that's necessary. All the threads from the current round will always be at the top of the list. As they keep getting closed when each round ends, they'll more or less automatically be organized in order of appearance, with Round 1 threads being at the very bottom of the pile.

Is the "Round 2" at the beginning of each thread title not a good enough hint?

No, I was just asking a question/suggesting something, that I thought might make the thread more organized.

Just curious, where would I go to reserve a spot in the next tourney? And what reminders would I get of it coming up? Because I have the kind of luck to just happen to take a break from explosm just long enough to miss out on the first round.

You'd wait until the next tourney, then when they announce it and ask for entrants, post then :indiff: And if you take a break, how are you meant to see the reminders anyway?

That's kind of my point. It would be nice, however tedious, if there was a thread or list or something with names of every member genuinely interested in being a part of each tourney. When entries are nearing their close, the people on that list who have neither said yay or nay could be sent a reminder outside of explosm, such as email or IM. This step could be made extremely simple by writing out a two sentence reminder email and sending it to each address which could be organized ahead of time. This would make tourneys longer and give them a larger variety of styles, something I think everyone would enjoy. I'm sure Far already keeps a list like this just before and during the tournaments to keep track of who's competing, this would only require him to add names of prospective competitors and check up on the ones that would make a difference in the entertainment value of the tournament.
You never answered my question of how we will be reminded though. If the reminder was on the front page announcements there would be a less likely chance of myself and others missing out on the tourney. I've never seen a tourney announcement on front page, so I don't know, but it makes sense that that is what would happen.

Last time we made an announcment on the front page for people to vote, long after everyone had joined up and entries were over yet all the threads were flooded with idiots who couldn't understand that we had already started.
It isn't my job to keep you up to date on the contest. If you want to join put in a little effort. I'll say this though, I'm not holding another until sometime well after christmas.

I'm sure if you're able to access your email, or Explosm PM inbox, then you'd also be able to access the forums. And if another comic tourney was on it's way, it'd probably be pretty easy to spot as it would be the high point of the forums at that time.

Hey guys, long time C+H fan but new forum user.
A while back my friend and I created a C&H fan-comic, and I was just wondering where the best place to post it would be.
Cheers!
