i thought that when you were walking through one of the more dark parts of one of the levels in Bioshock, really engrossed in the game, then all of a sudden a splicer comes out of no where.
or you see a little sister but no Big Daddy/Rosie, and you sacrifice/save the little sister, then out of no where you get f***ked over by a Big Daddy/Rosie |

![]() When you play this game on Veteran or Professional difficulty, he gets back up and starts swinging his chainsaw around wildly after you kill him once and take the guard's key from him. This was the single scariest moment of my life when I started walking away from his corpse and heard the revving of a chainsaw again. |

The ones that really freaked me out were the second monster you encounter, the one with a sideways mouth for a face or some shit. They make a horrifying sound when they attack you, and I get raped by them easily if I wasn't careful. I actually stopped playing Homecoming because of them. |

I found that Metal Gear Rex was scary as hell in Metal Gear Solid course I was only 8 when I played it but I always got scared when he shot the missiles at you.
And in Uncharted when you are about to leave the treasure vault you come across some zombie things that are really fucking fast and seem to come out of know where... They are especially scary when you have to cut the generators back on to get power going and its dark and they crawl out of pipes along the walls... First time since I was a teenager that a game scared me as bad. Also I found the Super Mutant Behemoths in Fallout 3 were pretty scarey knowing they could kill you in a couple of hits. |

Zombie dogs on the new map pack in COD5. Me and another guy were playing it and had just opened the door that leads downstairs, so we only had gewers(whatever the German rifle that is in the starting room is called). Our reaction was pretty much this:
"Hey, why is it foggy?" "i dunno, maybe it appears on round five." "Yeah and-AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH FUCK WHAT'S THAT!" I don't know whats worse, the surprise or the fact we couldn't defend ourselves with our guns. |

The boss Bongo Bongo from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I was quite a bit younger, and seeing that monster float around in the darkness with it's disconnected hands and the nice little severed stump at the ends of its' arms, that thing just scared the shit out of me.

It depends, for shock factor there was Alien Trilogy and Dead Space, which means that things jumped out at you all the time (dark surroundings/atmosphere). Resident Evil on the other hand was scary for different reasons, it was disturbing. The whole survival horror thing was done so well that I was literally on the edge of my seat for most of the game!

Mine would have to be those huge fish things from Half-Life 1. The sound they made scared the shit out of me! Knowing that they can swim super fast and practically one hit kill you didn't help either.

i cant remember the name of the game but it was like a little prison thing you were in.... and there were mutants that attacked you..... there was one that had blades instead of limbs, and it would be pitch black in a room, and you would hear their clanking as they clibed the roof, and then they jumped near you. Scary crap

for me the splicers in Bioshock freaked me out. the setting didnt help much either. but the ones that freaked me out the most were the spider splicers. you know the ones that were faster and could climb on walls and shit?
also the dog things in Prey. i hate those things because you have no lights and they come out of NOWHERE with thier fucking glowing eyes. creepy! and then the thresher maws in Mass Effect. they arent very scary but when you are driving around and the controller starts vibrating and then you hear a big roar behind you is pretty freaky. that and they move underground and you have no clue where they are going to pop up next really sucks. Well there's these regenerators as you call them... and those fucking flying things. They're not scary in open areas, but when in the sewers... fuck man, fuck!
Although the scariest part of games are when you're NOT facing enemies, and are all alone... knowing that some stupid enemy might pop up where you're not expecting... |

I was 11. My brother partook (avidly) in renting and copying many PS1 games that were coming out about 10 years ago for our modded Playstation. One day, he heard about Silent Hill coming out and thought to himself: "Hey cool - a new game for my bro."
So he brings it home, gave me the game and left to hang out with his buddies. It was a Saturday night, 8 PM, and my parents were still at church, so I decided to check out the game before my bed time. I played it for a while. Then I got to the point where you get completely fucking ass raped by those goddamned DOGS and end up getting totally slaughtered in some shitty corner. Oh, and not to mention those retarded fucking FLYING things. I put down the controller, stood up and shut down the system. Then I went to bed. When I woke up in the morning, I handed my brother the game and told him to return the game without copying it. He asked why, and I didn't answer. |

For some reason back in middle school when I played Mario 64, that big fish in the water (in the Little-Big level) scared the crap out of me. You could hear jaws-esque music when it was near, and then I never see it coming. It just plopped out the water and swallowed me whole.
Some of these silent hill monsters look damn freaky though. |

I don't know what this game was named but it was some kind of water racing game.
When i got out of a level and for some reason i thought "yay a secret map or something" ...then a squid ate me. To this day i still cant play any water levels in any 3D game. (i was a little kid at the time)
