Does anyone listen to podcasts? This is one o those things I don't talk to real people about- like forums- but I'm on the internet so wtf let's go.
Basically I've got pretty boring hobbies, and I get mega distracted if I don't have some guys talkin at me for an hour or so. Podcasts are really good for drowning out everything else. Here's a couple I listen to as they come out by the week- All free on iTunes: Stuff you should know I think it's from the How Stuff Works team. It's about half an hour long and they tell you a bunch of weird stuff that you might as well know. Like a few of the episodes are called Where's the best place on your body to get shot?, How do I erase my identity and start over? How Deja Vu works, Can You Control Your Dreams? How Muppets work, How Twinkies work, How do you steal an atomic bomb? What's the point of body hair? etc. Just a bunch of crazy stuff you might as well know. Y'know like- incase of emergency. SModcast About an hour long of director Kevin Smith and Producer Scott Mossier being dumbasses every week. I think the last episode I heard was about what they'd do if they were in a bank, and a guy busts in and threatens to shoot everyone unless they give him a blowjob. Then all the reprecussions that come from that. Another one was like- does his wife get off to makin a really great sandwich, because she's a chef? They're just these stoner idiots n I think it's funny to hear em ramble about shit. Bombcast Guys talk about video games. Like I PLAYED LEFT4DEAD2 IT'S GOT FRYING PAN IT'S WELL FUNNY. There's like a million of these out there and they're all boring and awkward except this one, which is good. And like SModcast, it's really unprofessional and dumb. I generally like hearing people who are keepin it real over guys who are like RADIO SHOW. LET'S NOT STEER OFF TOPIC BECAUSE WE ARE PROFESSIONALS. That sucks. Anyway keep in mind that podcasts are supposed to be listened to while you're doing something; like doin artwork or editing video or sittin on a train for a long-ass time. And they're only good if you like talking to people. Okay those are mine. I hope other people listen to podcasts, otherwise this'll be one shit thread.

Stephen Fry's Podgrams
For those of you that don't know who Stephen Fry is, shame on you and go google him. For those that do, you probably need no more persuading to go out and suscribe to his podcasts. The man's an absolute genius, and while he podcasts infrequently most of them are chock full of the wit and charm he built his career on. The only dull one, or at least the only one one could have a reasonable argument to call dull, is the first one, where he speaks of breaking his arm and his future projects. However the rest are entirely delightful, from rants about dancing, language nazis, media piracy enforcement to hawking his new book where he narrates Oscar Wilde's children stories, his knowledge about general shit combined with his own personal, well spoken opinions are great entertainment. Four Player Podcast This one is about video games. Four gamers in Texas gather 'round once a week to discuss video games, whether it be upcoming releases, floating rumors, reviewing games that they're currently play through (which range from silly XBLA games to obscure small time publisher games to the hugely anticipated and virally marketed games). They all have their own little specialty when it comes to games and don't always agree on whether a certain game is good or bad. One enjoys really dark games, another is a japanophile that also loves music/rhythm games, another one is pretty much a "bro" gamer and plays a lot of first person shooters, classic games, or hugely anticipated titles, while the other one plays just about everything. They're pretty funny and knowledgeable about the video, worth checking out in my opinion. I've also started listening to a Ricky Gervais podcast, but I've only listened to a few and I'm still deciding on whether it's good or not. |

I'm all about SModcast. That shit rocks. It's the highlight of my Mondays. Not really into any other Podcasts.
I used to subscribe to Jim Cramer's Mad Money video podcast. But recently he's stopped throwing chairs, so I ended up paying attention to what he was saying and realized that his stock market advice is dodgy at best. |

I think around 12% of people who use iTunes actually know there is a podcast feature.

Comedy Death Ray
"Alternative comedy" radio show out of LA that's usually hosted by Scott Aukerman. They bring comedians on and talk to them, and it's usually pretty funny. My favorite episode was when they brought Weird Al on. He's a pretty hilarious interviewee. |

Yeah, its the best. I bought the CD with all the shows on it, and it came with a bunch of Rockstar stickers. Pretty good value at $30 odd for hours and hours of radio.

Sounds like a referance to World of Warcraft.
I used to listen to the 8 out of 10 cats podcasts. I think they're free in the iTunes store. 8 of 10 cats is Amazing.

Do music podcasts count? Perhaps it's not what you're looking for, but you can listen to it while doing work, etc. I listen to NYUB. It comes out every month...usually. About an hour long. Not much talking, just the guy gets on and plays some independent music. And I don't just mean "indie rock." He usually plays a bit of techno, some more standard indie rock stuff, occasionally harder stuff. Most of the bands are pretty small I think, even in the independent scene. (I could be wrong, though as I don't get deep into any scene). He does sometimes play more popular bands, especially if they've just released something new after awhile or something like that.
I don't know any that are just people talking. I might check out some of these suggestions, though. |

I always found the Fat-pie one pretty entertaining, they have five episodes of 30-40 minutes each. It's like a sketch show with recurring characters.

The Mens Room
It's a local radio show from Seattle. Plays every weekday from 2 - 6pm on 99.9 KISW. I usually listen to it everyday, but with work and other things I've started downloading the podcasts. They are somewhat better since they condense the whole show into a hour and it's always the funniest parts of the show. Basically to sum it up, it's 4 guys who sit and talk about girls, alcohol, and anything crazy they can think up. Pretty funny. |
