Really nice eyes...with that expression I could see sadness, horror, shock, and many more :)

Nice. For a second there, I thought one was a mirror image of the other.

Jesus christ, that's just ridiculous. If they weren't black and white, they would look almost 100% real. And this is after you not having drawn for 2 or 3 years? That's just raw talent right there.
I wish I could draw 1/10th as good as you.

Depends how much light there is going into her eyes. I've seen bigger pupils
![]() Nice eyes, by the way. Nice shading.

I love it! You're going to earn money with a few more years of practice. You got the eyes right, you just need the rest now.

Looking good! Be careful that you don't botch the proportion when you add the rest of the face. You went ahead and started with extreme detail, so you're gonna be stuck with those eyes and the way they are placed. Can't wait to see how it develops.
Don't make a new thread for it, just do it here. I edited the title for you.

This is some of the better art posted around here.
However, i think that the nose looks like its going to get too big, sort of what Rob said. Keep up the good work.

The eyes previously posted were messed up as I continued, so I started all over from scratch. I just finished the eyes, nose, and outline of the face. I know the eyes are not nearly as good as the first ones, or at least they aren't in my opinion. So, what do you guys think so far?

Yeah, it's really nice. What pencils are you using for that shading? I assume it's pencils, anyway. I used to use 2B for all my shading but I lost/used all my decent pencils a while back, and all i have is HB now, which sucks for shading, in my opinion!
Aaaaaaanyway. I love the shading, like Jamez said. ![]()

I'm using HB to sketch and outline only. For everything else I'm using light, medium, and dark charcoal pencils.

That is really good Marisa, you have talent. Not a lot of people could get a face to come together like that, but you really are doing it nicely! Keep up the good work.

I'm curious as to why you go into such detail without having a layout first. Whenever I've drawn something realistic, I've always laid out the basics first, then went into detail... maybe that's why your picture kicks everything I've ever done's ass.

Yeah, I never plan it out either =/
The face looks way too high up in this update. Maybe the head outline is just really small. Also, the new eyes are big as fuck, but I loved the first ones. KEEP GOIN!!

I have too much time on my hands and so didn't space this out how I had planned. Here is the finished deal, I'll probably only make a few minor changes (like adding the dreaded teeth eventually). The eyes are too high up and I can't do hair. I'm sure there's tons else off about it so feel free to point them out. To be honest, I don't like it at all. Thanks everyone for being so nice. ![]() |

Portrait to real face comparison... yes, no?
It looks real good. Though something seems like it's not right. I can't put my finger on it, though. |

The eyes and nose look good, but the rest you can tell was rushed. The cheek on the viewer's left is wider than the one on the right. You shaded the nose and eyes fairly well, but lost it on the rest of the face, making it look flat.
Still better than the self-portraits I've attempted (thus why they've never made it online).

It's sorta strange because the eyes are so dark and nothing else is. It'd look better with teeth, further shading, and more detail in the hair I believe.

Needed more detail on the teeth and the cheeks seem really chubby for some reason? Other than that it kicks the ass of anything I can draw. Good work.

The eyes were excellent by themselves.
I've always been taught that for a really good portrait you should start with the form of the face, then add the details. |

A true talent at drawing is something that can't be taught.

Talent, or skill?
You can still be taught to be good at drawing. If that wasn't true, I'd be wasting money on a major area of my university studies. |

It's true that having talent alone is not enough; there are many valuable skills to be learned as well, to further ones overall artistic ability. If it can't be taught, then what is the point of any art class or study? I'm going to have to agree with Tyler. Unfortunately, I haven't yet reached the 'drawing people' course in my studies, so I still have a lot to learn skill wise in that area.
